This shot shows only about half of the campus. The burned out wards can be seen in the distance without their rooftops.

Wow this place was huge!
Wow! Karma is right, I had no idea it was this big!!! Did you get to explore much of it?
Those connecting hallways are huge, like a giant jigsaw puzzle. 7 down, or 12 across. Give us the clues!
How do you find these places???
Excellent shot, love the way the great railing frames the scenery Motts!
he did not find it we did lol, the UK Urban Explorers. This place is still not the largest in England. I know Motts has a Gallery coming up of the Largest in Europe, I think.
It looks like a letterless Scrabble game.
yeah, it covers a large area....but its kinda hollow...and pretty low level. still...ive got alot to explore there still.
OMG... I had no idea it was like this! I've always wanted to go to England anyways, but now I think it may make the top of my list if they've got places like this! Too bad I'll never actually see this particular one in reality. It looks like an entire neighborhood.
A lot of it seems to be in such great shape, it's a shame that it's being torn down. Some of these buildings almost look like apartments.
Man, what a MAZE that looks to be! Sort of a Kirkbride in chaos.

Wow, amazing shot that really illustrates the vastness of it all.
Great place for a Halloween Party...
and from up so high it makes you think...... what would happen if i fell would

would i fall fast
or....
would i float like a feather

I believe I watched a program on this asylum and supposedly some physical abuse to patients (beatings) stemming from the fact that this hospital had lots of L shaped halls and blinds spots where the majority of the spread out staff would be unaware.
Not 100% sure as that may have been a british prison that look similar to this place , also the abuse took place in the 60's.
holy cow, its hughe! amazing!
In common with most places good and bad happened here. However, there are documented events regarding the ill treatment of patients, and this did happen. There were also a large number of experiments tried out on people as well.
Hey Motts, in comparioson to other hospitals in the US, was this bigger or smaller?
They seem larger because they are so spread out compared to some of the asylums in the US, most notably the "skyscraper" structures built on Long Island (Kings Park, Pilgrim, and Edgewood). However, I haven't dug deep enough to find the maximum patient capacity / population during the most busiest years to compare with the data from the US.
i going to visit and bake cokkiesfor your patiants next week is that ok
all those buildings are the asylum? Very interesting...
I was a porter here for a few years in the early 90s. It was great.
Tearing this place down is a terrible waste of resources. Renovation is key, so long as it doesn't cheaply cover up the beauty.
i remember you isaac
1 nasty place
