Formation

The volatile English sky stirs above. We spotted the source of the noises in the center of the complex as the clawed arm of a bulldozer passed between the rooftops, at least now we knew what was happening and where we should avoid.

Nice... Soothing scene...
hey motts
it doesnt look like it because of the way its built
but
is this a kirkbride??
See intro to gallery:
It is based on the "echelon plan", which is a specific arrangement of wards, offices and services within easy reach of each other by a network of interconnecting corridors. Villas were constructed around the main hospital building as accommodation blocks between 1910 and 1935. Most of the buildings are in Neo Georgian style, with few architectural embellishments as a rule.
On a similar note, are all the Kirkbrides gone?
The Kirkbride design was mostly used in asylums in the United States, and there are many hospitals (both active and abandoned) which use this layout that are still extant.
Sad to think that our decendents will only know what a Kirkbride is from a book, not a building
jeez, at first glance the piece of roof in the upper right side looked like a flying saucer :O
Kirkbrides were built between the mid 1840's until.......uh.....1906? I think....
a quick peek at the Kirkbride buildings site shows Taunton as the earliest, built in 1854, and Fergus Falls as the last, in 1906.
