judging by the universal symbol on the first door, are we to assume that these are all bathrooms?
no these were all seclusion rooms
Beautiful doors!
All cleaned up and waiting for inspection
why all open ? did you prep the shot Motts ... ?

very good shot and i imagine those rooms are not very big judging from the distance between doors
I really like the colours in this one.
Makes me think of a school, and how the halls would look 5 minutes after that last bell rang for that day. And if you were riding the bus home, the radio station ALWAYS played Alice Cooper's, "School's out."
What a strange colour combination with the crimson doors and the lavender walls.

Awesome gallery, Sir Motts! :-)
Jmack - i wouldnt imagine he did, everytime ive been there they have all been open.

i like that this part hasnt been too badly damaged by the arseholes i know who damage the place. it seems the faggots like to stick to the first floor near admin.
This picture brings to mind these raspberry popsicles I used to love as a kid. Now I want one :-)
Great hallway shot Motts! The subtle changes in colors and textures...terrific!
Motts after you took the picture did you run down the hallway with your arm out and slam all the doors. I would have , wouldn't have been able to resist just for the echo -lol
Kadee, you mean so they could let the wrecking crews know exactly where they were at? ;-)
Oops, I forgot about them. Still tempting though........
Is it customary for institutions that are closed down to leave all the doors to the rooms open (like maybe for security purposes)?

Yes, it would be tempting to close the doors if you knew you could get away with it....but I'd hate to get stuck in one of them accidentally and not have a key to unlock the door!
Great shot and it looks as if the facility is still in use. So clean and no decay...
I agree Bill. The paint doesn't even look to be peeling!

The colors are so vibrant...thats amazing.
Motts I'm not joking--you're from NY start talking to some museums or show this sight to some professors from art colleges who have connections to the art world. Do you have any idea how many people would come to this if you advertised it right and put it into a public gallery?
You could make A LOT of money sir, I'm really serious!
wow these were seclusion room?? they look really quite nice it almost looks more like a hotel then a hospital in some places
autumn-
never knew it was routine to leave doors open upon closing an institution. could be security or symbolism?
lady hawke-
i noticed i didn't hear "school's out" at end of school this year.... kind of missed it, even though i've been out for eons.
Minktail~ I know what you mean. I graduated in 1980. BLM always played it the last day of school the years that I went. Even now, I'll hear them play it on that day. The last day of school was the best! Definately a high!

This picture also reminds me of my favorite movie, "Fast times at Ridgemont High." I imagine, Jeff Spicoli 's (Penn)character would have been the first kid out of one of those red doors if this was a school. No wait, he wouldn't use a door, he'd use the window in the classroom. Closer to the parking lot. "Hey Bud! ,heh, Let's party!" : )
oh good you found the mens room (first door on your left)
are you sure you got the right place? looks like it is still in use. if it is, i know a few good patients
This part actually looks pretty decent---clean. Don't they remove valuable items before they demolish it? Or does everything get torn down together?
Such an odd color for an asylum, you'd think the red would just drive them more crazy.
No, that'd be pink. ;)

Really, though...I'm very sensitive to colours and while red is an energizing kind of colour, this shade is extremely mild. I like it.
Navi, I agree. Pastels drive me crazy, they are annoyingly colorless to me. I enjoy bold colors. I don't think that these doors where painted but stained this color. This has preserved them beautifully!
i see a red door and i want to paint it black...

;)
i was there again today. looking at this gallery is making me realise that even after 3 trips there's loads i haven't seen yet.

we went in the dark this morning. not a good thing for the overactive imagination!!
I have a pretty good vocabulary, but every so often while reading the titles I have to look up the meaning of a word. This site is not only entertaining, but educational? : )
Geez! Wow! After seeing the stark photographs for a while, this one sure popped in the brightness. Your a Magician of photography Motts!
i was standing right there yesterday afternoon. it still looks the same, just a little more trashed. get there soon though, as in six months time it'll all be gone...
I like the picture, but, I don't like the red doors. I can't explain it, but, it puts me in a state of unease or restlessness. The red on violet... Love the layout, hate the colors.

*scrolls up again*

Claustrophobic, that's how it makes me feel, I can't explain it, it's the red on violet for some reason. Maybe I have issues... /shrug
Not claustrophobic, I looked at it again, it increases my anxiety greatly, I really don't know why. Great shot Motts, it's hard to get so big of a reaction out of me from a photo.
WHAT A PLACE TO HAVE A FIT!!
u can almost see people walking out of them. Great shot Motts!!
why are all the doors in these buildings always left open?! is there an actual reason? lol
sometimes, I wish I had a seclusion room of my own at home.
Amazing doors! i think they were the doors to rooms in the male ward, Judging by the sign on the door

Question: Is the color of the sky blue or green?
