High mounted door.. Very interesting.

Perhaps to keep people from ramming the door to escape?
You can see from the way the wall is painted that the floor that used to be here is missing. However, it means that whatever was under the floor was short in height. Motts, do you know the story here?
that is not unusual ... i mean the use of 2 colors in medical or health buildings being the darker color the bottom one at about the height of one's lower chest. at least some parts of my home town hospital are like that also sometimes a wooden kind or rail or aplication is used separating the colors along the halls and even rooms. anyway i think its a window
It's a window cover like in the previous photo... just a tall room with a dual-color paint job.
Thanks Motts... Maybe I've had enough Early Times tonight!
Well THAT makes a lot more sense!

P.S. Jmack, that's interesting what you said about the bi-color walls in Europe.
im shure that there is a reason for the use of 2 colors ... since most of the hospitals i visit here in portugal use this . usually dark grey versus light grey . sometimes light grey vs white . and in older hospitals some 70's colors combinations. anyway a little research would be nice.
I knew it was a window right away, do I get a prize?
.....or should I just shut my cake hole? ;-)
i suspect im under attack again ... :(
Oh no! For what? We'll take care of you! :-)
Jmack you just stick with us hon. ;-)

I can see where it would be easy to think this is 2 floors and that is a door, it was the size of the light bulb and the vents in the walls that gave it away for me though.
Me too Jude, recognized it from the last pic :) I want a gold star personally. haha
All I know is that if I was kept in a room like this for too long, I KNOW I would go crazy!
I'm just gonna say the picture's upside down - the light in the center is actually a floor lamp.
I would imagine that having the walls painted two colors would mean that if it needed repainting, you only had to do half at a time.
why were the walls pink? To cheer the people up. Bet it didn't work well
I second the upside down theory.... We all know that Motts has superhuman abilities, maybe hanging from the ceiling is one of them!
Well someone did mention something about sending out the Bat signal for him...interesting
I'm suffering some angst. Jmack makes a lot of sense and I definately appreciate it. The problem is that he might be my doppleganger. This is a great photo and I appreciate the talent of capturing the essence of it. So far this place has not moved me . Is it me, or am I missing something.
I still totally don't get why the floor is lower and all that stuff...Its too late and summer vacation. Maybe thats why.

Cool shot, is making me think. Ugh.
Sam ... its not a door, the floor is not lower . its a window on a division painted in 2 colors
johnny mac - i know what you mean. this place seems very, um, sterile? motts - did it feel that way to you?
Okay, I feel *extremly* stupid and blonde, thankyou Jmack. That's a big window.

Arg. Its like 4AM, maybe thats why I cant understand anything right now.

Excuse my general stupidity and blondeness. =D
surly girl, my princess,

Never ask a man in the prime of his virility if he feels "sterile." Just a small hint. ;-)
i think i was attacked again ...
Nope, no attacks. Everyone is still loving you, best as I can tell. :-)
It was very sterile... most of the hospitals in England seem to emit this feeling in my opinion, I suppose I will hear other views in the future galleries and see if you guys agree.

Perhaps it was the renovations, or lack of equipment and objects that drive the feeling of people having lived here that cause this...
kinda crepy but very cool!
I hope maybe I can be a part of this group. you guys all seem cool and have good opinions on the pictures. plus Motts sounds awesome!!
what is the difference between this room and a prison cell?
Its looks up side donw. with a floor lamp; you can tell by looking at the bottom of the door
that really is the top of the door.
Standard hospital/prison/asylum paint job .......dark bottom/cream top ...been overpainted to brighten it up and the modern paint is peeling back to the 1904 2 tone
it is a nightmare
even if there used to be floor where it looks as if there is a darker paint job, the door would have been set lower than the floor.
..hospitals used to paint the lower half of walls darker to cover the color of blood. ..that's why a lot of hospitals are painted green -- green doesn't show "blood" red.. ..and if one is laying on a gurney the blood isn't going to splatter to the ceiling.. ..just about chest high for a standing person..
..oh. ..and the floor is lower on purpose.. ..it keeps patients from breaking down the door.. ..you can tell there was no floor there by the moulding under the door frame..
it`s a window with a shutter over it.......D`oh..........Trust me I lived there.....LOL
I really wonder if they thought it trough before they built some of these places
maybe the bi-color thing is so the part of the wall that gets touched a lot wont show the dirt as much?
I think it was done by a Bi-Polar Painter
Life is not but A joke Gods joke that pic. is emityness and loneyness my curse from God
that pic discrbesed my life Gods Joke Love
is four good-looking and Rich without that your
Shit GODS-JOKE FROM -HELL
so small
Like I said previously I think that ''door'' maybe a window. It seems as though it may be a punishment room of some kind preventing the patient to have any social means by blocking their view or maybe a space where experiments may have took place? Would make anyone go mad!
lol, i'm a painter (not bi-polar though) they call it two-tone, or mono-chromatic. such a fancy name for a room with two colors...
If it were not for the light fixture I would say that the pic was taken upside down!

And that is a window shutter,not a door :)
