OK, this exterior shot is more what I had been thinking of. Did you get caught by the storm? It looks nasty.
This would make an awesome wallpaper! I love it! The sky is gorgeous!
A really pretty shot!
I'm sure many of the patients consistently felt a storm upon this asylum.
Motts, these places must be even more creepified when there are vicious storms raging outside (even when they were operational)....did you ride out the storm here?
Ahhhh. My second favorite shot in this gallery. The tree really sets off the buildings, and the storm clouds.
We waited until this bought of rain passed over but it was a matter of luck not hitting one on the way back to the car
Great Architecture... What a shame...
NICE AND OVERCAST.
yes..a beautiful place...but who gave it such a horrible name? Hellingly? imagine going into an asylum named that...no thanks..
Many asylums there had some creepy names to me at least - Hellingly, Severalls, Cane Hill, Netherne... kinda cool sounding now that they are abandoned though!
Is it just me, or does it look like there is a person standing in the first big window from the left...? CREEPY.
Motts, I have often thought the names of different places in England were creepy. Since my husband is English it has been the topic of some of our conversations. There is a prison in Manchester called Strangeways. It had an execution shed and a permanent gallows. I do agree with you that the names of the asylums sound great with them being abandoned. By the way, I am loving the pictures from your trip abroad!
Beautiful
Oh, Motts, this shot is AWESOME!!
It almost seems as if this building is sitting at the end of the world, what with the sky blending colors.
The place/village is called Hellingly...just happens the hospital was built there.....pronounced Hell-in--lie there is another village nearby called Laughton.......you`re `avin a laugh.lol that`s LAWton
REFRESHING!!! Don't you feel that everything has been cleansed after a good rainstorm??
GOD'S WASHING MACHINE. Think about it!!!
I read an article and in the middle the author stated ‘’Hellingly was some kind of hell, which is all suggested in the name.’’ I am intrigued to find out if Hellingly actually has any meaning, any ideas?
Some other " ly`s" in. Sussex. -East Hoathly-West Hoathly-Chiddingly- Now`t to do with Hell
i'm actully allowed to call this the hospital in h---?
