Was the hole due to erosion or was it man made???

I've been in abandonments with holed floors so I have some ideas, but...they didn't look like that.

More creepy crumbly paint. I love it.

Looks like it was cut with a hand saw, perhaps to get at some copper wiring or for an asbestos abatement estimate.

Construction consultants usually do this to buildings they are about to remodel. The cut holes in floors and remove covering from structual supports to reveal the conditions inside.

I love the colors in this one. It makes you feel like you're waiting for a hand to peek out of the hole. kinda creepy, but i like it.

The way the paint is peeling on the walls makes me feel like there was a violent patient in this room. Maybe the hole was a attempt to escape....

This makes me think of the Pink Panther. The detective series not the cartoon.

the photo is great ... now about the hole , something was hidden there by someone at sometime, then someone found something that mentioned that someone had hidden something somewhere on the building, now someone must have left some hints that lead to the hole so someone would found the something that it was hidden inside.

The hole is the entrance to the Obliet from Labyrinth..."there ain't no doors, only the hole"

The way the paint peeling looks makes it feel as if a patient went ballistic with blood on their hands and just started to claw at the walls in hopes of being let out, gives a creepy feeling like something was in the room with the patient.

Wow..when I first saw the walls in this pic I thought of autumn with the red and orange leaves falling off the bare trees. I think that's probably why I find this picture so calming. I can almost smell that October smell.

Hello. I was a patiant here in 1952. That "hole" wa a fire escape that lead to a tunnel bellow the basement which lead to a staircase. Follow the staircase and you'll find a fire escape/poll.

Woah, Tons of your pictures remind me of Silent hill, with the walls blackened and peeling. Some of them scare me.. Still quite nice.

The first thing that struck me in this photo, is the way the paint is peeling in the corner. It reminded me of a tree in autumn that was shedding it's leaves. As was stated earlier, I could almost smell the damp, dead leaves when I looked at this photo.

My second impression was, oh, there's a hole in the floor, wonder what that was from.

That hole was the entrance to ........The oubliette

I saw the paint before the hole in the floor, it really does look like claw-marks, if you've ever had a cat get at wallpaper you know what I mean.

I agree it definitely looks like Construction consultants work, to look at the foundations of the building! An individual could have found this and used it for other purposes, who knows! Good find by the way!

Wow,. The paint does make it look like there was someone violent locked in that room. Very eerie.
The hole is hard to concentrate on with all of the other things going on in this photograph.

blatantly someone got locked in there, messed up all the walls, and tunneled out.

i hate holes in floors, especially in the pitch black lol, my dad almost stepped in one in MA.
