This is my favorite so far, and what a great name!
Vultures have struck!
The door in the background says "keep out" and I certainly would!
"snakes, why did it have to be snakes?"
Really, so far, it doesn't look like they left alot of waste behind; not like some places.
I only have a problem with the description.. "Wires were stripped of copper"? Usually the wires ARE copper. If the copper's been stripped, then you wouldn't have wires.. Right?

Regardless, I like this pic. I thought is /was/ snakes at first! :)
I guess I consider the sheathing as part of the wire as a whole... I'm no electrician though!
Creepy.
Yet beautifull.
i want to go into the room on the other side of the "keep out" door
Cool place, wish it was mine.
Awesome! Snakes on a Plane vs. Snakes in a Hallway!
Hellingly (perhaps hellishly lol) put! Glad we don't have a pun tax here. :p
freaky yet i like the keep out maybe a forgotten patient was there OOOOO
Great shot and wonderfully appropriate title - a perfect reference to the 1948 classic movie "The Snake Pit," about a mental hospital, starring Olivia de Havilland. I guess insane asylums were at one time called "snake pits" as a slang term, though I haven't ever heard that in recent years.
GREAT TITLE AGAIN MOTTS!
Why were the wires stripped of copper? was it left over from the war effort?
Tom, copper is worth a lot of money when sold by the pound, it was most likely taken for salvage.
"I'm tired of these ************ snakes in this ************ hallway!"
But I will never tire of these amazing shots. Seriously. These are phenomenal.
"Theres too many moherfukkin snakes in this motherfukkin hallway, Motts!!"
you guys..lol.....the copper was stripped out wholesale by "dodgy geezers" and sold for scrap.........it was in the basement that follows all the corridors..miles and miles worth possibly thousands£££.It`s a well known tale round these parts
Yes!!!! THE SNAKE PIT. Old B&W movie revealing the deploreable condidtions of asylums of that time period and before. GREAT MOVIE!!!!! You youngsters have to be into B&W, though. Everyone who likses B&W photos should see it.
those snakes came to my house yesterday and stole some copper....true..I live a mile from the hospital.I left some CU outside while I went off for 10 mins. and it went AWOL
Pardon my newbishness, what is CU?

My first thought, was Copper Underwear, but, I'm sure that's not it, at least I hope not, that couldn't be comfortable.
LOL Taubin..it shoud be Cu, I think....symbol for copper anyways. A hot water tank, it was. worth about £20.
Copper thiefs are one deadly threat to abandoned buildings. The only good thing - if you unintentionally meet them while exploring they normally don´t care about you, in contrast to security..
