This shot provokes such a feeling of lonelyness
I'll agree to that. It makes me feel really isolated.
Its a good picture it looks like you were sitting in the corner all alone its thought provoking lol
I think they're crates, too, but are you sure those aren't cribs (probably not because they look so old and the place was operating in 1994)?

Many of these big adult institutions had nurseries, most of which were just to care for patient's babies before shipping them out for adoption, others were viewed as a means of therapy. (Believe it or not, caring for unwanted babies has been found to do wonders for both institutionalized mentally retarded women and for the children themselves).
They're too low to be cribs, if anything to do with babies they would be playpens.
Just a door opening into nothingness. I love it.
I thought they looked like cribs too at first and that grey mass inside looked like a person but maybe its just mu imagination thats running wild:P
I agree with Walik... i thought it was a person or something in the crib/crate/playpen thing.
Maybe these "crates" were actually to throw the laundry into (see the divider in this one).

This reminds me of Return to OZ, where Dorothy runs away from the asylum and falls into the water. She gets into a similar "crate" except I think they call it a corn crib.
Is this the same crate from the B&W shot a couple pictures back? Did you move that one to this location or is it a different crate?
It is a different crate.
it's cool how you can't see anything through the door, nothing but blackness
I love how the window was actualy opened with care rather than being smashed in. It gives the picture a whole new feeling. Also its gross that somone actualy took a crap in there... at least they opened the window to let the smell out.
im sorry but that again does not look like a crate the slats are too far away im sticking with my theory its playpen for a baby!
Laundry cart. Having seen them evil wheely things close up they're too "industrial" for a playpen...
Gotta be a laundry crate .......the staff nursury was down the drive in another house ....sorry guys.lol
It loooks eerily like a crib.
O_O
It's a really sad place. I went there yesterday. My sister went as a child as our step mum worked there. They were very cruel to some of the patients. So sad...
You are able to photograph nothing but a *door* in such an impressive way. I´m photographing too, but that is something I´d never been able to yet.
