I would be interested to know what this room looked like when intact. Very intriguing.
Lynne, you took the words right outta my mouth!! This DOES look like it once was a gawwgeous room!!
the height to the ceiling and the arches on the sides of the fireplace make it look very "regal" it must have been a beautiful room. The fireplace, is it marble?
I have a feeling I will be falling asleep tonight thinking about putting things in this room back in place.
The fire suround looks like it's 1930's ceramic tile. They look good but were relativly inexpensive.
Well, I never had a thing for light fixtures before, but again, this one is so beautiful. It looks like an abstract mobile.
Multi person soap dispenser.
Lynne, you said it!

Must've been very elegant before all that nastiness grew in there.
I have tried to pull up some pix of this place when it was up and running. All I could find was an old postcard of the train that used to run there from the main Hellingly Depot. Does anyone have any old pix or could steer me to old pix of this place?
So beautiful! I would love to have this room!
It would have been beautiful to have an artist use those two sections where the arches are and paint a scene in each of them from the floor all the way to the top of the arch. Art like Pre-Raphaelite or Alphonse Mucha. I would line the rest of the walls floor to ceiling with bookcases.
Of course you'd need a tall ladder on wheels to reach them.
This room reminds me of the Disney cartoon, "Beauty and the Beast" when Belle first walks into his library and falls in love when she sees bookshelves from the floor to ceiling filled with books.
Mott's - you are a true architechural artist. These shots not only bring you the appreciation of the art but the inner rumbling of ones couriosity - I don't how old this group is, but I am in the busines of Land and Buildings - alot here to share....you have given the rooms a voice...
I wonder if this was a dayroom or a patient's room?
I just LOVE this picture! This must have been a gorgeous room in its' day.
Looks like an old library but without the shelves.
I would like to know what was/is above the fireplace.
This is really great to look at! It reminds me of some nightmarish image music videos although it's beautiful in a confused and neglected sort of way....
I would love to have a room like this in my house (without the mold and debris of course)
i like the fireplace it looks elegent
How beautiful this must have been in its day.
The purple chair like thing is so vibrant, and the fireplace is so...clean. And then in contrast you have the decay on the walls.

Now, why would they have a multi person soap dispenser in a room like this? -keeps straight face- It was a BUBBLE dispenser.

i'm just SO cool.
This room evokes many different thoughts and emotions. What a great shot! I captures all the beauty and deparavity that is this room. It also captures a sense of sadness at it's decline.
Motts, please tell me you explore with a portable respirator. . .
Stephen King. That's what this shot reminds me of. Even the title. Very King-esque.
I love the colors in this shot, the purple with the green, offset with touches of black here and there and then the soft yellowish walls.
The potential this room has for decorating is incredible, I would love to have a house with a room like this, only in better shape of course.
as soon as i quit gasping for air Ill search my limited vocabulary for words close to describing how much i like this shot and this room. truley awesome in both its forms!
I was eating my dinner the first time I looked at this - the thought of all that mold almost made me . . . kaaaak. . . . kaaaak. . . . kaaaaa. . . .
It looks like the mould is creeping steadily accross the room, decaying it piece by piece! possibly like the slow-acting yet chronic effects of mental illness. excellent shot.
God, this must've been a beautiful place in its day...how can they let places like this just fall apart? i
WOW, I feel like Im walking through time. The curtins are still there.
i went there last night and there was a man inside who appeared in the window and screamed at us
One word for that room .Like clorox.
So that was you , jamie , you little bugger. stay away from me and my friends ....ha.ha.haaaaaaaa
that floor looks like its ready to go careful.
I'm making a re-construction image of this picture!
I'm sure this place will pass inspection... =]
like that little pupel thing
WOW, gorgeous just gorgeous. The symmetry is amazing with the mold.
Woah, never been to England, never even been off my continent,, but this room... it gives me a feeling of deja vu. Maybe its because it looks eerily like the waiting room of a psych hospital in Texas... one which I had the displeasure of being sentenced to....

Probably just a coincidence, though...
looks like a cracked lcd tv above the fireplace
