Scooter

I'm not sure what this is, but I would guess that it's a small skateboard for a child to lay down in and move across the floor. The black squares are Velcro contacts on the inside, and the label read "Tech/Thom Class A". In the back are various types of padding and other equipment.

Yes, that is exactly what it is. We put helmets on the kiddos and give them knee pads and padded gloves and let 'em rip - they have a great time and can really fly in those things. It's nice for folks who are not ambulatory to be able to get around independently. They explore, learn about their environment, increase their independence, and have a good time - all at once.
I swear my grandma had one of those in her basement
Okay, the only way to descibe that is..... cool!
Hehehe that is great! :-D imagine how happy that made the kids, makes me happy thinking about it.
I think I'd be too tempted to pad up and fly down those stairs.
Pricey is right! Looks like an ab roller, maybe
Wow, you're not kidding Lynne!
That's why I am always surprised when they leave this stuff behind.
Lynne if its at all possible could you please tell me the first thing on your mind when you see these photos? Also I love it when you show us other sites with these items. You are so right about the cost and just leaving them behind. Makes me wonder how much use other people could get out of them and couldn't possibly afford them.
They make me think of the last time I saw someone using that particular piece of equipment.
See Lynne. What the hell do i know?
how do you find all this stuff?
Damn! : )
Part of my current job is finding resources on the Internet.
Tumbleforms makes some pretty cool equipment. My toddler, who has had a stroke, has a lot of fun in therapy with this stuff. It makes me sad to think of all the kids in third world countries that don't have basic medical care, let alone therapy, who could be using this stuff.
Wow, and that looks like new...
jane i never thought of kiddies havin strokes, love to you and you toddler and i hope good luck and love shines ontoyou both....
Sam you're right it looks brand new except for the dust and tape
Thank you, Lynne, for the info. you provide on a lot of these photographs. It is nice to know that a knowledgeable person is willing to share with the rest of us who wonder about some of these things. Again, many thanks.
Do they come in adult size? Looks fun.
thank you Lynne for shareing your knoledge with us it makes things less confuseing and gives some people a veiw on pictures that helps feel more of what people went threw/ did many thanks
I work at a school for blind, and physically handicapped children, and we use these with the kids there. They lay on their stomach, with the two close wheels under each armpit, and their legs by the spread wheels. They then can pull themselves across the floor by their hands. I have had the chance to play on one, and they SPEED along a good tiled floor. They are a great time!
we had some of these in our MH unit at my high school they were not this type they were more of a square board on four caster wheels they serve the same purpose though they are quite fun to roll around on
Thom used to be the name of the medical hospital on the school's campus, but now it's just another building (I'm not sure what it's used for).
My son has also used these for OT. They help develop upper body strength.
Ok I checked out the adaptive mall website and the SN Maclaren pushchair is only 100.00 more than the Maclaren I bought Feb 2007 (but its on sale)
Its normally around 800.00
they used these at my elementary school, we had children with serve down syndrome and what not, it was part of their therapy i believe, to get them out of the wheel chair, they loved it, when we would spin them and push them down the halls..it was good to see smiles on their faces
This is kind of different from the more "depressing" pictures on this site (I mean NO disrespect Motts!!)..this almost smacks of good times, smiles, laughs, and fun. I get a kick out of kids having a great time...disabled or not.

I love this picture and it is nice to see something "happy" for once...though they DO look rather lonely down here. They belong with children. :)
