the detail on this is awesome, Motts!

great use of sepia, great subject (gotta love Victorian pieces!), and i love how the left side is the precursor to what the right side becomes...

"entropy in [slow] motion," kinda
Well, damn, that is one fine shot!
Daaaaym Motts, I love this more than the other shot I said I loved.
Wow, great shot Motts....I bet that couch used to was gorgeous!
WAS?? Look at it now!
I love the way you captured this Motts. This must have been a beautiful piece of furniture when it was new!
This is beautiful. I can't even imagine who got to sit there.
Motts, that is spectacular! I'd hang a print of that right above my own sofa.....
Wow, this is going on my list of favorites...I love Victorian era parlor couches. It's interesting though, because that type of decor is not one usually found in hospitals...
I love this, I love this, I love this! Wallpaper? Please? This is such a delicate shot. It gives a semblance of what was, what is, and what is to come.
What a waste of decent furniture! :(
For "Project Elbow Grease," me and a few guys moved that couch into a patient room. We had chizzled the paint off the walls, swept up the floor, and decorated the room. We were planning on painting the walls, but we ran out of time. Another day.
For some reason, this is the scariest picture.
(Start Sarcasm)What, it wasn't enough for you to torture the poor innocent patients with PAINt, but you had to torture the couch too??? I feel you pain, little couch dude! (End Sarcasm)

Seriously, I would love to hang this on my wall!
Awesome ! It looks amazing. It's a lonely couch shot.
that is so sad to see such a beautiful couch rot, I love antiques and would have given it a good home, all thought the shipping would be pretty expensive
8-)
For some reason this pic makes me think of Lizzie Borden.......
you are right Carmen, the lizzi borden couch is about the same, you know the saying right??
Lizzi borden took an ax
gave her mother 40 wacks
When Lizzie saw what she had done
she gave her father 41

at least I think that is how it goes.
Yeah!! I remember that, ha...that is what I was thinking when I saw this couch!
maybe something i would see in a funny scary movie with a ghost laying on it wanting to talk about his problems. i would put this picture in my house.
I agree with Bri. A wallpaper of this would be most excellent! Wonderful job, yet again, Motts!
Sketch, you want to hang a couch on your wall? Hope you have some pretty big toggle bolts.
yea this is one great pic, it would be a great wallpaper for sure. :)
Twug -
He probably does!
So out of context with the asylum. What tender moments might of taken place on this romantic sopha. Was it from a madman to a madwoman who made some kind of bizarre marriage vows , or from a family meeting trying to resolve deep problems. The photo gives one the latitude to be able to fantacize any one of thousands of scenarios that took place here. Thanks again, my talented friend.
If you rewind this picture just a little bit, you'll find this sofa has seen lots of activity...

One of your finest, Motts! Truly stunning!

Tops the "lone chair" shots!
That chesterfield would look nice in my living room...
"I'm rusted and weathered, barely holding together. I'm covered with skin that peels and it just won't heal."

God damn, that song, "Weathered" by Creed (RIP, loved them) should be this site's theme song!
Did anyone notice the springs hanging out of the bottom? Realy top noch Mr. Motts
I restore furniture and I would LOVE to take a crack at restoring that!

Beautiful piece, love the detail and the picture is amazing!
Looks like someone tried to eat it but gave up.
I sure this will be really random but i really like your style and and subject matter ive been taking pictures for a few years and i love looking a new stuff to help give me new ideas thanks....
It reminds me of the couch in the Lizzie Borden house.
Ahhh, yes! It really does. The story of Lizzie Borden has always fascinated me...is that weird?!?!
Bri, that isn't weird. I actually did a research paper on Lizzie Borden. Got an A too ; )
Back on topic, This is probably one of my favorite pictures on this whole site. Love it, love it, love it!
dolce dormire
lizzie border had a axe gace her mother 40 wacks when she saw what she had done she gave her father 41
WallPaPEr!!!!
great pic wonders if i can get sofa like tht at my nearest store lol
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC PHOTO!

ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
Tom Cruise probably jumped on this.
A Visitors Couch Maybe?
That is my kind of sofa!!!! if I ever saw that thing in person I would carry it home.

Looks like theres a freakin eyeball in the middle of the cushion as well, LOL!!!

KILLER PHOTO!
freakin GORGEOUS.....
stunning, man...
The couch looks tired. It seems to me that it is on it's last legs and has decided to give up or give out.
Ya know that couch that grandma just REFUSES to throw out? Well, that's it.
i may be a couch potato but i wouldnt go near that thing with gangis kahn's ass
wow, thats a really nice couch, or used to be, anyways great photo
very nice couch. i love it.
Two skelentons embracing each other waiting for the end of eternity that will never arrive.
timeless
that's amazing, at first it looks like a perfectly good, antique couch, then the further right you get the worse the damage is... sorry just thought that was so neat
glad it is freaken not at my house
I could see someone resting on this in a distraught mood.
Sit right down and have a nice cup hot of tea.

If the tea just happens to taste like bitter almonds; don't worry, it's okay.

It will all be over soon.

The touch of my soft fingers upon your rough cheek will be the last thing that you will ever feel.
DAAAAMMN! ............how much you want for that?!
They put beatiful things in the visitor parts... the deceive the families to make them think that There Loved Ones were actually being cared for...
Lizzie borden took an axe.

Gave her mother forty whacks.

When she saw what she had done,

Gave her father forty-one."
"...and when she saw that she was through, she gave the sofa forty two."
Gorgeous couch. Looks like something that I would have gladly put in my living room - assuming that 1) I could get it up the stairs, and 2) I could AFFORD it. Pretty, though; in its heyday it must have been beautiful.
i'm sure it'd disenegrate if you picked it up.
This is just disgusting, sensless waste. One of my friends has a couch quite similar to that in his office. The wood is ornately carved and the seat backs/cushions are velvet stuffed with I THINK horsehair( whatever it is, it's damned uncomfortable to sit on!). It belonged to his great grandmother and dates from somewhere in the 19th century. The couch in this room could be the twin of this one (esp since his mother's family originally came from New England)

Nonetheless, Motts, thank you for capturing it for us yet again! ;)
<big> HOLY CRAP <small> that couch needs some work!!!!!!!
Love it. The couch was in the children's ward. However, the area the shot is taken may not be that ward. Looks like it has been moved. Just thought I would add to the creepy or sad take on this photo.
this is just beautiful!! great picture motts!!
Lithium, LOL about the couch gets 42!!!
...Yup, good old L.B. had her issues-anybody seen the play "Blood Relations"?
Joe, I also restore furniture and antiques in general. I would say that there is not enough of this piece left. I don't do upholstery -- just never been my thing. As for the wood, the whole skeleton would need to be rebuilt because it is partially burned. The walnut frame is also partly burned as well. The sagging and breaks is indicative of dry-rot. I would just salvage the appliques and whatever good walnut is left to use elsewhere.
