That's the weirdest shadow!
Motts, is that caused by boarded windows?

Freaky!
This room looks too clean to have white walls.
I like this shot! It's different because of the shadow...but it's striking...beautiful.
im trying to think how you got that lighting without getting your shadow in the way.... photoshop? if not thats a neat trick.
All i can imagine is laying on a bed watching the shadows mark the days it has a prison for the soul and the mind feel
... *shivers*
Just crouched down on the floor when taking the shot to avoid my shadow ;)
I tried that "crouching down on the floor" techniuqe to escape my shadow a few times, but when i stood up.... it was stil there and then it followed me around!
The black and white angles, how wonderfully deep dark and depressing. It brings the full force of what it was.
incredible photograph, i like the play on words in the caption too ^_^
would hate to have to spend my days locked up in such a room. this photo gives one a sense of real isolation and confinement.
i feel weird about this picture. it seems familiar. but not.
Another awesome shot, thanks,Motts
now i under stand why these people were insane they probraly went in there fine but staying in there has got to do a number on ya
[sigh . . . . . ]
Nurse Lynnie, dontcha think it's time we tell them the truth? ;)

In reality, they would go out on the street, take perfectly healthy people, put them in here, and spend all of their time trying to drive them crazy! They got really good at it too, and if you need proof, just look at the world around you! Some of their methods have bled out into the real world: for instance, pop music! :D
Oh Gawd!!! Bless the beasts and the children!!
Don't forget the part where we hit them with paintballs and make them use the reducing machine . . . .
i knew there was something scrwey with the white walls in closed in areas
It's a lot harder to get into these places (the ones that are still open) than it used to be. Once upon a time all it took to be commited to a state hospital was the signature of 2 liscensed physicians. General practitioners not psychiatrists. Now it takes some doing to be admitted to a state hospital, unless the court sends you for evaluation.
Reminds me of a place that used to haunt my dreams during my depression, only the light wasn't there.

It's an awesome photo. Just creepy.

On the rare occasion that they actually put a crazy person in there, these would send them crazier xD
Fear.
Lynne,
I had to add to this one, albeit late, according to popular opinion they dragged someone off the street made them dine off the floor in a falling apart dining room stuck them in autoclaves and mattress cleaners as torture and locked them up for weeks on end in the padded rooms while tying them to the floor then beating them senseless. Did I cover everything... No wonder everyone is crazy. <grin>

As a seperate note Mr. Motts Your website is my all time favorite. You combine two of my favorite things and then I read the comments and laugh my butt off half the time. The people I work with must be about to commit me...

Anyway thank you for everything you do to keep this site up and adding to it. Beautiful work!!!
Is that a face I see looking at me from outside my room??? That small rectangle on the lower lt is where they put your food in to you-of course -it was plastic tableware....
I am on the same level as Vin. To lie there and see the lines of light and shadow that pass is very melancholy.
Mott: Some of your photographs somehow bring to the surface dark and scary thoughts.

This photo says to me that the poor person in this room spent his or her long days in the grips of desolation and loneliness whiched turned into hellish nightmares of dread and despair.

I wonder if many a tear was shed in this room............?

i see those eyes again!!
in that rectangle o.O scarry

makes me want to stop telling people about my imaginary friends and those voics i hear.
The horizontal lines feel like they are closing in.
A belated note to Joy: you forgot to include the part where they cut off the top of the person's head and took out parts of their brain. :-)
wow, i thought my grandma, took good pictures Motts, but you are truly the GOD of photography!!
Is that a cat door at the left?!
