Respiration

Respiration

The air ducts were connected to each room in a very unique looking fashion.

an old fashioned central air conditioning system? dont ya hate when they have strange set ups in a mental hospital... just makes it all the more weird.
hmmmmm whats that in the hallway/window way up in the front...?
Looks like the A/C was an afterthought when perhaps patient and staff comfort became more of an issue.
awesome hallway shot Mr. Motts!! As Always
For some reason to me it looks like the halls are curling in... I need some sleep.
Definately a retro-fit, as the ducts are connected the the doorway entrances....It does give it a sinister look, though...
Quaker, good wuestion...I wonder what that is up there...Motts, do you remember?
The lonely chair! :)
Yup that is one "different" looking air system! Great shot Motts.
this looks like someone of the administration said to the worker: "ummm... these rooms need some air respiration so build some no matter how weird it will look like." - and the worker did as he was told.

lol :D
It reminds me of a monster or a creatures stuck to the ceiling and making its way in to the rooms.
ohhhh this is a neat picture, gives me an erie feeling, like someone or something is going to pop out into the hallway!! ;-)
Wow those ducts make for some crazy patterns on the ceiling kinda makes this photo even mor mesmerising than some of the other great hallway shots, sweet stuff motts.
This pic has it all - colors, texture, perspective, etc.
Great picture! I've never seen air ducts like that before. The corridor seems to go on forever..
I know the buiding is old, but that is the stupidest idea of how to do ventilation that I have ever seen!
Those are some freaky looking air-con ducts. Imagine being ill, already having problems with reality, and having to look at those all the time.
Ah, creepy, just creepy. I love it! This place is in good shape for being abandoned 32 years.
Wow... I love how the ducts lead you to look further down the hallway and the symmetry becomes obscenely apparent...I love it!
the lighting in this pic is great is that a person i can see at the end of the hallway!! spooky
THE AIR THINGY MAJIGGY IS REALLY SPIFFY! ~ WOW ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE IVE COMMENTED!
Ethetics, there were none. Practicality, like who cares.
Hey, JAVA, I've missed you!
I'm not sure when the building was built, but has anyone thought that central air wasn't even considered in the orginal plans because it didn't exsist. If that was the case, attaching the ducts to the exterior of the ceiling/walls would have saved a lot of money once the initial construction of the building had been completed and inhabitted.
Exactly! The facility where I currently work didn't even have air conditioning until the 1970s. And it STILL doesn't work all the time. ;-)
Nice to be home again......
I'm not convinced this place has been abandoned for 32 years, anyway, I too must comment on the ducts. I first thought they were ornamental architecture!
motts have u ever came across someone in the buildings that u have explored and they freak out on u
Nice, have to agree with the others, that looks really weird...
I want to know what that thingy in the end of the hallway is, the thing that kinda looks like a person...
it must've been really hot and odiferous in there on such a scorching day
Nah it usually only smells bad when things rot away in damp conditions, there wasn't much left here.

tim - yes, security!
Does the grafitti to the side read "cole slaw"?
very nice shot looks like a ghostly face way up there
This photograph just proves my point of dim-witted government officials approving such an ugly design for a hallway.

Those ducts were probably put in much later after the building's completion. It was probably the best they could do without making a huge mess.
This has to be one of your coolest photos yet!!!
phenomenal
Intense metal ductwork there!
Love the title of this picture.

Question: Is the color of the sky blue or green?
