You couldn't see the outside world from this solarium...

...much less a lot of daylight!

Or maybe that's just the overgrowth and stripped walls/ceiling that's choking the sunlight.
it's almost as if you can see the shadows from the leaves moving about on the glass ~
Journeyman...I felt the same thing. When I first looked at this, I couldn't figure it out. Then I read your comment, and the word "movement" popped into my mind....Nice shot, Motts.
Question--Why have a solarium for patients if they can't see the outside?
Perfect, Journeyman! Whenever I see dappled light in a picture (which I love!) it always makes me think of the movement of the sun through the foliage.

Another truly great shot Motts!
They probably could have seen the outside before it got all overgrown, Tony. Just my assumption.
nah I don't think they could...the windows that are intact look frosted...
cant see the outside, but i think you could feel it
Journeyman got it on this one...wow...beautiful...

Thank you, Lynne! How perfect!
Little panes of opaque glass...so many to smash, so little time! Heh, heh!
I have never been moved by photos before....you are truely spectacular at what you do! Please keep these coming! How sad to be tempted with the outside world only to be denied a true glimpse of it from this room. Kinda negates the term 'solarium'.
Why did alot of these old places use those glass blocks in windows years ago?
so that they would let the natural light in without having to risk the breaking of large panes of glass or having to compromise the look with the use of wire or bars on windows......keep in mind violent women patients......the opaqueness was not so much to keep them from seeing out but from others seeing in
I love this shot. Whether it's the plants making the green and blue, its lovely. Very nice color.
Love this pic awsome capture
maybe you should hire someone to clean the place
Those windows look marvelous with the vegetation filtering the light through on the other side of the glass... Quite calming, in my opinion
