Life Beyond the Light

Life Beyond the Light

The stencil on the door reads, "KEEP DOOR CLOSED - LIFE SAFETY CODE"

Although this place wasn't the most photogenic, it was a real interesting trip in the fact that so much equipment was left behind, both from the hospital and the physics department!

"Life safety code" means that it's a fire door and has to remain closed when not in use. The wheelchair is used for transporting someone to the bathroom. Notice that the back is not sturdy and so is used for transport only. It is nice that the commode seat has padding. After sitting on one's behind all day in a wheelchair, a hard porcelain commode surface is not the pleasantest thing to sit on.
Another amazing find Mr. Motts, thank you!!
Thanks, Motts!! Nice shots here!!
Great shots! Thanks for sharing them, Motts.
This set moved me, especially the wheelchairs and other items. My 14 year old nephew was in types of these chairs for his whole life, until this past winter, when he passed on. Both happy and sad moments here. Thanks again for posting these.
very nice Motts, very nice.
motts this is a wonderful picture, you have once again amazed me!!!! :-)
you have done it again Mr. Motts.....awesome as usual!
Great set of shots! I am saddened by all this adaptive equipment just sitting and rotting as many folks could benefit from it. A few chairs look like they may have been custom made on site while some are from major manufacturers. Overall tho, it is frustrating but not much you can really do.

Thanks again for the tour :)
this reminds me when i was interned in a hospital where children from 12 or older where put together with adults ... i ended up in a ward with 4 old man one was learning to walk again after a friend tryed to scared him when he was seating on top of one of those table saws so he turned the saw on ... the saw was up ... woopsie there goes my friends ass ... anyway they used a similar chair to take him to the bathroom but most of the times he wouldnt make there , as soon has he was on the chair he assumed that it was a toilet ... so ...ahh well you guys imagine the rest
Well, I never sat on a table saw before, but that might be a new kick!
Very nice set of pictures, Motts, very thought provoking, thanks
Hey Lynne, you said that that chair is for transporting someone to the bathroom. Why then, is there a hole in that seat?
this stuff gives me butterflies :)
there is a hole in the seat so the person doesn't have to be transfered to and from a toilet, the chair could be backed right over it. it can also be used to take a person who cannot into the shower, so their peri-area can be cleaned.
oops... who cannot stand into the shower...
Absolutely fantastic photography Mr. Motts!
This product is very effective and a lot of seniors appreciate the technology

lynne you are a genius and i think i love you but all these weird chairs hurt my back really bad just looking at them i'm not in a wheelchair or anything but i'm sure by the time i die i will be i suffer from spinal-bifida-ocorda spelling? and arthritus in my lower back and the kicker is i'm only 19
Todd,

I can safely promise you that you won't get spina bifida if you don't already have it. :-)
You know..............you really have to go............

HEY ! They stole my idea ! Well, not quite ; all it needs is a motor and racing slicks.
I've always wanted to poop on the go.
Looks like an old bath chair!
Best picture of the collection in my opinion. It looks (kinda) like someone got up and walked out, away from the wheelchair into the sun!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... (gets stupidly imaginative)
not photogenic? i loved this place.
It says that those doors must be kept closed...

Glad to see THAT is being followed according to the Life Code...lol!

GREAT gallary Motts!!!
