Awesome!
I always pay attention to your titles Motts, but I don't quite get this one. Is that a bridge for foot traffic?
I'm not sure, so I left it pretty ambiguous... looks like a moving track though.
Oh okay, then it could be a conveyor.
Yeah, I'd love to know what that "bridge" is. Part of it looks like it could be for foot traffic, but that incline looks rather steep for a ramp...I don't see any steps. A conveyor would make sense but I don't see any mechanism or way for things to move along.
I originally thought a conveyor as well since it goes between two different levels. On closer inspection however it looks like there are no remnants or signs of any rollers having been mounted between the rails. This would be necessary to deal with teh incline. I am more inclined now to believe that htis is a what is known as a Cable Tray. It would be used to run heavy electircal cables between two areas. Usually used as part of a renovation when it is to costly and not necessary to run large conduit.
Reminds me of Monsters, Inc......
Good thought, SLS!
This is not for foot traffic. If it was, you would have to duck under the metal bars. : )
that is what's left of a chain conveyor. a moving chain would slide inside the track on the top and hooks (no longer there, either) would hang down from it at intevals. parts would be hung from the hooks and the moving chain would take them to the next floor orproduction operation. supported from the track and hanging underneath it is a metal screen which was there to catch any part that fell off its hook and to keep workers from getting hit by parts moving overhead.
SLS has my vote. He is the industrial relic mystery solver champion : )
mike's got it on this one. It's the remains of a chain conveyor. If ya go forward about four-five pics, you'll see a pair of them leading up to a balcony from either side.
