Wow! This gallery is incredible! Thanks for sharing Motts!
Mr Motts...this set of photos.. AMAZING..thank you.
Yay new pics, thank you Mr. Motts!

I thought this girl looked familiar! :-)
Who dat? WHO DAT?!?!?!?!
Oh! Hi, Candace! Man, Motts...You've outdone yourself here!!!
i love it. The hallway almost has a roman look to it. I beleive the compound bow is a little to modern for this pic though. I got some vintage wooden recurve bows you guys could borrow.....
I rather like the way the bow is modern and scary as hell looking. ;-)
Do people buy your prints for like album covers or something? Because this is one of those :D

<3 your work.
I second what Tim said here...you could seriously do photo shoots for musicians and stuff...granted of course you would enjoy doing that kind of thing. But it could boost your fundings for the book...*cough*hack*cough* teehee
Oh yes.....the *coughbookcough*!!!
i like all the other sets you have on here, but this set kinda sucks....i mean dont take it the wrong way, they are good photos, but a little outlandish....that is what i think....stick to the photos that dont have people taking away the spotlight from them.......sorry to piss all of you off but thats how i feel..
Will B.,
I do believe that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion and should not be afraid to say so, Kudos Man, you stuck straight to your heart even know it may have caused some un pleasant feelings, Good Lad
Thanks for the new gallery Motts, wonderful and beautiful as always and props to the model!
Mr. Motts,
Now be honest, if you were exploring the halls of Northampton alone at night, rounded a corner and there she was standing there looking exactly like that?
Could your UR heart stand that jolt? I'd more than likely leave a deposit in the skiffies, run like a true madman and never enter one of these places again-----at least voluntarily!
I like this. Very intense. Shooting architecture and shooting potraiture are two differing photographic disciplines. I'm curious - who chose the poses? Motts or model?

Observation: Cool stuff - but I think you increased your risk level. Being caught trespassing, if you are, is one thing. Being caught trespassing with a compound bow complete with arrows yet another.
John Black: No worries there, Motts uses his alien powers to zap in and out of these places, so I imagine that he could do the same for Candice and her bow!
Mr. Black,

I am thinking that if they find him with a young woman dressed up in angel wings with black army boots who is bedaubed with fake blood, they are more likely going to take them on a sidetrip to Bellevue Psychiatric before they see the inside of a police station. However, I believe this to be Motts' true plan so he can sneak in a hidden camera and take pix from the inside of Bellevue.

Just a random stray thought.
Oh Lynne, How I jsut LOVE your random stray thoughts!
Wow that's weird, I was just thinking of walking past Bellevue this weekend to check it out.

John - I chose most of the poses, although I wasn't all too sure on what to have her do exactly in some shots. Yes bringing a bow into here was most definitely a concern, and extra precautionary measures were taken to avoid problems, although the arrows did not have heads on them... that would be a very bad idea!
BEAUTIFUL MODEL WHO IS SHE?
She is Candace, she plays guitar in a band that Motts plays drums for. Isn't she a great model?
I love this set, i def think you should do more figurative stuff.
I was wondering when you would use a modle. good choice. I love how her dress gets more and more soiled during the shoot. now My wife wants to modle in some of the humble places that we find here in south dakota. I LOVE THE SCREAM.. don't know how you got that one to work out, but awsome.
we would love to come out on vacation and see some of these places.
you have my email.
thanks.
Motts, you are a genius.
I very much dislike ''emo'', sorry but this is not gonna get an ''ok'' from me!

This sorta has ''mtv2'' fake m*tal written all over it.

This whole ''I am depressed, because hot topic told me so'' is such a joke!

Only in 2006 AMERIKWA could depression be a ''hip'' thing, screw these people for mocking depression, depression is not something that you can fake!

REAL METAL WILL ALWAYS BURRY 'this 'emo'' crap !!!

In memory of Bethlehem's-Dark Metal!!!!! in memory of the past...

''FROM THR PAST COMES THE STORMS''
BESTIAL BEHERIT, hey it is just a picture, and I know that you are intitled to yuor opniion, BUT>>>>> you need to tone it down, show some respect. Mr. Motts is doing something different in expressing his photography , changing the mood of a bare hallway and adding some beauty and mystery to it. TAKE FLIPPIN CHILL PILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and relax.
BESTIAL BEHERIT,

Thanks for the honest opinion, but first off, you're talking to a metal drummer. I know and play with the NYC/Brooklyn metal crowd, you're barking up the wrong tree.

#2, Music has nothing to do with this set, it's about the breakdown of a deity. I did the best I could with what I had.

#3, I stated that this set did not have anything to do with real psychiatric illnesses or problems, or the hospital in any way.

BESTIAL BEHERIT,
Take a nerve pill and respect the art. Mott's does a hella wonderful job on the pictures he provides for us. Go Mott's.
Motts*

Whoops

Fecking typo gnomes.
Motts, ok ,I see what you are going for then! I would have prefered a German blond girl, but its yer art man, so what ever ya know? cheers!

Are you aware that many German Americans built these beautiful structures? its amazing the talent we have!

Do you like CARNIVORE? the ultimate NEW YORK speed/doom metal trio from the 80's! that is how I will test if you are metal or not! CRO-MAS as well!

''WERE GOING TO A RACE WAR..''-CARNIVORE

...And listen to BEHERIT and BETHLEHEM(Germnay)!!!
Hi, I am new to this site. My ID is not Deafangel is not new because my cousin who been staying with me been using my pc, so now I have it. She told me that this site was awesome and out of this world. I may make errors in my word structure, however, be patient with me...Thankls

Oh, by the way, Deafangel used a lot of my info on here, most what she put happened to me and not her. Gee. she not know what means "Mentally impaired" as she never had a mental problem in her 26 years. She pretended to be me. Gee, talking about mistakin identity. Well, here I am and I am going to tour this site of Mr. Motts and relish every bit of it!!
PS...I love my couisn, however, I am quite glad she gone back Tennessee. She been around since December 25, this past year and tired I am of her. Now, can breath and have relax time enjoy site!!
Sandy, I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you deaf? You mention that you may make errors in your word structure. I know that is a common problem for deaf people. The syntax of ASL (American Sign Language) is different from spoken English. Although deaf people know the English language it is difficult to write because of the differences in ASL and spoken English. S.E.E. (Signed Exact English) follows the same syntax as spoken word, however it is not commonly used among the Deaf culture. Just a little FYI for those that wouldn't understand why a deaf person would have trouble with sentence structure.
To AuntMaymeMommy...Yes, I am profound deaf. I have always been hard of hearing, made much bad grades in school, and because I had hearing impariment, school personell wanted me go in mental institution, they say I no can learn because not only I hard of hearing, however, they thought I was mentally challlenged to a degree that no help for me. However, I proved them wrong. I took tests and now my shrink says I am very smart, I not know how apply self because for forty-six years I was always sheltered. When husband got killed in 2001, I had learn many things on my own. if not for my seventeen year old daughter, i would be in a mental facility now. She takes care of all our money managements. She is my right hand team!
I went profound deaf at age 39.
I suffer from severe anxiety disorder and also major depression. I also have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I may be wrong how pronouce that.
What do ya think? Now we have a story line. My guess it could turned into a t.v. series with real life stories. Whoopee, a new reality series. I don't think so.
I think that all these pictures were a waste of ink and time....
Well since they're all digital it's just a waste of time :-)
Motts - touché! ;-)
A real wonderful adventure that took us to the artistic human side of this series. I commend you Motts for trying something new, for better or for worse, I think better. I brought life to an otherwise dead air. The other photos were what dreams are made of, Candace introduced humanity into dead space. I must tell all of you, that Candace's hands are of interesting piece of the art. Her hands are always an outstanding part of the photos. Whether this be planned or not, it's a vital part that really impressed. A hand model not, but powerful hands, so.
Va-va-va-voom! Very cool and original idea!!!!!!!!!!
i like how it connects with cupids
I read it makes a great cover for an album, it does work that way...great work Motts.

Hail to NY
I agree, The Dude...

I'm thinking it would make a good Nightwish album cover... ^^
I must say that these pictures are all absolutely breathtaking. My friends and I were going to go to the State Hospital the other night, but we saw other abandoned buildings that we just had to explore. It was 3 in the morning, and when we had arrived the energy was phenomonal. It was just 3 buildings and a chapel. I know that these buildings aren't a part of the Hospital grounds, does anyone know what they are, perhaps?
I like htat dress lol.

The whole picture is very nice, and the name is very appropriate.

Nice bow by the way =)
That's what makes us all have our own personalities. Not 2 people are alike; everyone has their own opinions. Imagine if everyone had the same thoughts and opinions? Express what you feel but leave the judging up tp God. As far as Sandy Ann, I think alot of people many many years ago were probably misdiagnosed and ended up in institutions over minor things that could be remedied today.
Despite the extremity of BESTIAL BEHERIT's post, I'd have to agree with him/her.

Mr. Motts, you are a great photographer. I will go as far as saying you are genius for your work. I love how you capture the beauty and memories of these old structures. But please, please don't desecrate them by photographing such commodities: Some "goth" chick, fake wings and a crossbow?
You're better than that.
Call me old-fashioned but it's almost sacrelidge what you did with this shoot. I mean no offense but please promise never to do something like this again.
I love the concept of the "human element " in your experimentation. I can't wait to see more exploration in this area.
My only reservation about this line of photography is that the subject appears "too new" and crisp. Kind of like using a white plastic belt in an old western movie. I'm no camera exoert by any means, so I really hope you're not offended by this. I think the compositions might work better is the subject were less 3-d or crisp and new. If she were more transparent or indicated by delayed shutter speed or off focus. Kind of like the photos you took with the light
traces where you leave shutter open..I think...I don't know..
Once again..please don't be offended. I love your work. I think it's great that you're branching out.
No offense taken, an honest critique is always helpful.

Morgana - I had an idea and unfortunately these commodities were the only way I could convey it. I was not entirely happy with them either but it was all I could use with the limited time, money, and resources I had. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy these, all further models will most likely be placed in a different section of the website.

kathyd - I wished the shots would've looked more timeless, unfortunately I could not access an older model bow (they aren't very popular in NYC). Thank you for your input and suggestions.
Motts,

I don't think it matters what anyone else thinks. If trying new things with your photography makes you happy you should do it. Life is too short. I respect you for trying new things. You will never be able to please everyone. So keep up the good work.
Thanks Stacy, I will continue doing what I feel is interesting and it will no doubt be controversial (I have some pretty strange ideas right now!), but it is great to hear criticism; often there are thoughts and perspectives I do not see, and I believe it helps a person grow as an artist. You are right, you can't please everyone!
So why are you wasting your time on the internet young man. You have scantil clad women and ruins to record hop to it chop chop
Motts, where did you get the dress for these photos?
Candace had this old dress laying around, I think it was a hand-me-down... I modified it to look shredded up and dirty.
Thanks! I'll see if I can find something like it in a thrift store.
ahh cupid, she who seeks out the brokenhearted....
Eh. Yeah, I don't really like these either.
It all seems a bit too cliche. You know, the fallen angel/cupid, now prowling about abandoned corridors with a vengence.
I really do like the idea of adding a model, but I suppose I would just prefer someone a bit less done up.
How can I retrieve records of my mother-in-law who was at Kings Park between l926-30. Anyone know??????
wow...this picture is simply amazing yet extremely haunting....i love the model and the way she looks in this picture...<3
oh and by the way Motts..if you dont mind me asking...what is the name of the band you play in...i wanna check it out???
Love the dress but im not so crazy about the compund bow.. i like standards better because they are raw and simple yet dangerous. The compund looks too modern and the color of it does not fit with her dress or the background very well..It should be black or white or something more simple but raw and crazy.. you know? to fit with the rest..
Motts, you do a fine job with every subject you shoot. I think this gallery is a nice change of pace from your "normal" galleries. I suspect you felt the need to branch-out a little and recharge the batteries. I find it a nice change too!

You da man!!
umm whats with the girl?
wow! so beautiful picture. i can't breath when i look at this picture.
The bow in this series dows not work for me at all, other than that very well done as always.
I've looked through this gallery a bunch of times, and every time I poke through it, I'm amazed all over again at Candace's beauty and your ability to capture it so wonderfully. This is by far your best set, in my opinion. You should definitely do more shoots with models, if that's what you're into. Nice job, man.
This shot would be amazing if only that girl in the silly costume wasn't in the way.
Omg, I'm jealous! Very beautiful shot, Motts. Good job, candace! That must have tooken forever....to get a perfect shot like that. Good job! :)
omg when I first saw this, it freaked me out! I thought she was a ghost!
