A Space Odyssey: 2001.
Ok...I know what it does now!

I love the blue cast the lighting gives...it's rather beautiful!
Bri, what does it do? lol.
Someone help me, I don't know what it does either. I love the blue light in this one Mr. Motts, good shot.
a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
Man, the colors in this gallery are great.
It's the mother ship of the Interstellar Squirrels!
OMG!! Are they here???
Take me to the moon!
What happened if you had to go to the bathroom or something? I mean, people couldn't have possibly lived in these things could they? If I ever had to be in for my whole life I'd be praying for a power outage.
ground control to major Motts
There were bellows in back where one could push and pull a handle to "breathe" for a person inside.
((There were bellows in back where one could push and pull a handle to "breathe" for a person inside.))

we had the power go out. the generator took what seemed to be for ever to start up.
running from room to room, I had two, to bag the patients by had, was the most stressfull 6 minutes of my life. yeh, hold your breath for 45 or so seconds, two quick breaths, then hold for 45 seconds. that was me running from one room, into the next and back. they lived..
way too creepy
That blue cast lighting reminds me of when i was little and i went to my local dentist and i used to sneak into the closed of part, there was a hallway with a odd smell and one window and the place was litten by that blueyness...
Creepy.

Nice colors though. blue, my favorite hue.
i wonder what it feels like to be in an iron lung, can you feel pressure and stuff when the lung is "breathing" in and out for you? or what?
If you look through the comments on this set of pix there is a gentleman who has written in who still uses one at times, although his current one is much smaller. He has offered people the opportunity to look at his website and chat with him - a very nice fellow name of Henry.

P.S. He tells a pretty funny story about having been in a larger one as a child and the machine started to suck him in one night and he had to call for help. 8`-)

Lynne no one asks any questions to some one who knows. Thanks for telling them anyway. =)
You know, I was just noticing that. Here we have someone who actually lived in one of these places and can give all the feedback anyone wants about what it was actually like, and you'd think everyone's computer up and broke. >:-(
if these idiots ever saw all the children who were swimming one day and the next were in these iron lungs growing old they would not make these stupid statements thats why it was called infantile paralyses
These things are so frightening.
I like this one. it must have been terrible to be in this. how...if u dont mind me asking....how did u go....potty?
Just think of the people who died in these things!
