I was looking at the marks carved into this green wall in the last seclusion room of the hall, as I normally do, and I noticed this faint word...

Truly sad, scary too.

That word has been there for a long time.

Looks to me that there could be the remnants of a couple more letters on the left. Maybe it doesn't say death afterall.

Well, it rather looks like "Beth" to me, but then, I'm a little on the non-romantic side - sterile and clinical and all that. :-)

I thought it said Beth at first too because of that curve on the bottom, but it didn't look like the rest of the impressions on the paint upon closer inspection

The tail end of 'megadeth' maybe? It seems only appropriate for the good of society that a megadeth fan be forced into isolated seclusion.

For "Beth" I was seeing the curve at the top of the first letter, not below it.

Well, "seeing" is obviously relative. I was pretending to see it - how's that? ;-)

Yeah, wow indeed. That mark says it all as far as what it must have been like for a person to endure such mental anguish in a place like that.

ever heard of 'hospitalism'? thats a serious mental disorder where people suffer from when they're accommodated in a hospital for a long time without adequate care, and hospitalism is very common in overcrouded hospitals. so whatever the people in there suffer from, they additional suffer from hospitalism due to the bad circumstances in there. thats the 'dark' side of all hospitals.

I have to admit that "hospitalism" is a new term for me.

it's comparable to the "Emotional Deprivation Disorder" and has similar symptoms. hospitalism has additional apparently visible symptoms like bedsores, underweight, rocking etc.

I was in a hospital for four days a few weeks ago (pneumathorax). I was bedbound. After a while the smell of my own armpits was making me nauceous. And there were hardly any nurses around.
Very bad caring indeed.

Pneumothorax sucks. Hope you're better. :-)

With a pneumothorax we generally make patients get up and walk four times a day. You run a very high risk of developing pneumonia. Sorry you had to have stinky pits. The nurses must have been busy eating popcorn and gossiping at the nurses station 8-)

Joe, some of these people may be semi-illiterate, and maybe didn't grasp the concept of "words dont always spell the way they sound" or something. Creepy and eerie shot though...good job...

Well this reminds me of "Love" from Northhampton State Hospital...it really makes you think about what was going through these peoples' minds as they were locked away. In a way it's sad.

It was probalby a wish, a calling....or a word that brought comfort. When you are "crazy" and the world seems dark and against you, and you are lost inside of your own mind, sometimes " DETH " is all you want, especially if you are locked in a room all alone with nothing to do but listen to your maddening thoughts.

I agree with "Megadeth". That's the very first thing I thought of when I saw this shot.

And the final word is....Death.

to voice my opinion, i think i may see an "E" before it. EDETH(as in a girl's name), maybe?

Interestingly the letters look either elevated or sunken.

What makes it even stranger is, if it does say Beth, notice how the paint forms flower shapes to the left of the writing, Almost as if a cry to 'Beth' left behind and was so heartfelt that it is still haunted by whoever wrote it, still in the room waiting for her

Actually I see Beth. Its hard but under what appears to be a D is another curve, at any rate its not death. No A, and if I were going to carve a word in a wall I would spell it all the way, otherwise...see what happens. :)

given that this was the isolation ward, I'd say the originator was probably more interested in receiving than giving "Deth"

I'm going with DEtH, because I like the idea the lower case t resembles a cross.

But, and I'm just throwing this out there, if the perspective is misleading and maybe, just maybe, this shot is 90% of the entire wall, then the word deth is infact written in mega sizing and our inscriber is thus not only a music fan, but a very clever one.
