I find it odd that for a phyciatric hospital there are no bars or mesh on these big windows......
Jude, I wondered the same thing about the mesh...Motts, could it have been an excersize room for employees?
This room was closer to administration, so it wasn't a violent ward, and remember quite a number of people paid money to voluntarily admit themselves here for rest and relaxation in the 1800's; many parts of the asylum resembled a resort back then!
**Yes Jude, we do!!**
Now that's a strange one...
A blonde called her old boyfriend and said, "Please come over here and
help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure it out or how to
get it started."
Her old boyfriend asked, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"
The blonde said, "According to the picture on the box, it's a tiger."
Her old boyfriend decided to go over and help with the puzzle.
She let him in and showed him where she had the puzzle spread all over the
table.
He studied the pieces for a moment, looked at the box, then turned to her
and said,! "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able
to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger."
He took her hand and said, "Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice
cup of hot chocolate and then............",
he sighed, .
"Let's put all these frosted flakes! back in the box."
ROFLMBO! It sounds like something I would do! LoL!
No, why do you ask? Has someone taken it?
"Why would you want to perform an exorcism here? It doesn't make any sense... "
Well, Back in the day, probably before this asylum's time, more in the middle ages up through the 18 th century, it was thought that vilolent mental illness was really demonic possession. Ergo, if someone was having Schizophrenic or Psychotic episodes, they called the priest in, and he performed an exorcism.
"Speaking of the kellogg sanitarium, has anyone seen " THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE "?"
"No, why do you ask? Has someone taken it?"
Hah. Great movie, set in the
Battle CreekSanitarium run by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. Back then, some sanitarium's and asylums were like resort spas. Very peculiar, especially with the modern view of institutions. Dr. Kellogg was one of the major proponents of "fitness culture" in the late 19th Century, a time when many urban Americans' diets were seriously lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables, or whole grains for that matter. In your description of this photo you mentioned and old floor plan. Typically do you find these documents at these sites or do you acquire them beforehand?
I enjoy collecting artifacts like postcards and architectural drawings to places I've been to or am planning to visit, which is how I came across the old floor plan.
I work and visit many old working structures. This just doesn't happen, to this degree. Yet I've seen it time again in your work and others.
Shun me and I die.
but they dont look very jump proof...
