Employee Quarters

Employee Quarters

This was actually the original Pines Hotel, and the resort was built around it later on. It became the building the employees stayed in, and the upper floors are very dangerous because of rot.

The building was called the Ritz. It was one of the better places for staff to stay.
That's scary, the rooms looked pretty damn small in there.
I spent many yrs in the Ritz. Then I was moved to the Holiday and Fiesta across the road.
I spent numerous summers across the street in the Holiday. In fact, my dad's whole band used to have the Fiesta
Puttin' on the ritz LOL
If you're blue and you don't know where to go to why don't you go where fashion sits.........Puttin On Th' Ritz
The issue with the upper floors was fire damage, not rot, although obviously it has now also rotted.
ewww the holiday and fiesta i hated going in them lol what was the other ones name?
WHEN I WORK AT THE PINES IN 1980 IF WALLS COULD TALK!!!!!
The other one was the Riverdale.
i live in one of the most rapidly growning cities in the world put than on an acre in the worst part of town and get about 25 million out of it.
I lived in that Building From 1989 -1992
Then moved into the main from 1992-1998

I lived on the third floor of the Ritz from Sep 1980 until the summer of 1981. It wasn't that bad. Room and board were part of the pay so the rest of the paycheck was pretty much party or gas money.....
my grandmother was the executive house keeper and had 3 rooms at the ritz. i worked there from the age of 10 helping my mom ,cookie[ thats what they called her ]clean rooms. we lived in kerhonkson and had to go back at night for night service. i spent lots of time there doing everything. i remember sitting in grandmas office and all the maids were polish so i didnt get anything anyone said. grandma was about 350 lbs. the last time i was there i was 17 and i am now 44.
Drie looks a little snowey.
I was the Director of Activities and MC in the nite club from '84-86. Hank Leeds, the legendary previous director disappeared Labor Day '84 and I took over. Anyway, I was given two attached rooms on the main floor in the Ritz. Each pair of rooms shared a bathroom in between (that's the way it was in the old days) ... so I had a 'suite' of sorts. One time I was taking a shower. I'm totally lathered up and someone starts banging on my tub from below with a pipe or something and I hear screaming from the basement. Scared the crap out of me. Turns out the hotel's handyman was fixing a leak and had undone the pipes coming out of my shower. The water was going all over the place. Just another day at The Pines And don't get me going on when the old guy backed his car thru the walkway leading to the Carlton...
I lived in the Ritz in 1980 & 81 what a hell hole. we had to sleep with lights on so the cockroaches wouldn't come out. There was a life sized mural drawn on my wall of a junkie shooting up--real nice to wake up to.--Upgraded in 82 across the street from the hotel--forgot what the place was called.
Nice place, id love to work there
Another funny Ritz story.. Late one night the fire alarms start going off. We open our doors to see smoke (steam) pouring out from the room at the end of the hall way (what would be the second floor room on the far left in the pic). The guy inside was yelling & cussing. We went in for a closer look- through the smoke you could see the form of a tall thin black guy, completely naked, bending over at the old steam radiator with the broken lever in his hand yelling "how the hell do you shut this mother f*cking thing off?!" Of course nobody was willing to help the naked new guy- we retreated back to our rooms in hysterics instead.
..Or the time the keg broke during a party. We finally got it 'fixed' early the next morning- but it would only flow continuously with beer. What else could we do but to all call in sick so as not to let it go to waste? No staff today Jerry..
Howie, You call a move from the Ritz to the Riverdale an upgrade?!
I come back on this site on a regular basis, I don't know why, but I do. Maybe it's because I hope to see if my old friend Tom Tom has posted!

I would think it would be fun to live in the "Ritz" cockroaches and all. To get away from home for the summer and have a fun job and meeting new people. Sounds great to me!
This building burned down a few weeks ago according to the local news.
Yeah, the OWNER probably burned it, along with the other two buildings that burned very recently.
Nice feeling to this shot.
T--thanks, forgot it was called the Riverdale.
It was an upgrade--no cockroaches. just an ocassional snake that would slither in. We even purchased a window A/C unit to keep the place cool in summer. ..until it was reported to the Erlichs that staff were using their electricity.
My dad is an acquaintance of Cliff Elrich, the owner. That guy didn't manage his buisness very well. BTW, he's also now the director of Empire Resorts.
The only thing left of this building is the fire escape seen in the photo and a pile of rubble.

Marcy, Laurie Smith said Cookie was her mom.
So was this Hank Leeds a shady guy? He disappeared? I'd love to hear more about him.
Rumor has it he's buried 400 feet NW of the old chalet.
