building 93 intrigues me and has since i was a little boy. it's a magnificent building that is sitting there rotting away.
we got into this building, saw raccoons, and went into this room on the second level. there appeared to be a fresh pool of blood and i shined my light in the back and found dried pools of blood. im me on AIM for the pics AH92387.
There were piles of raccon shit in 93 so deep you couldn't even get up the stairs.
Almost stepped on an expired cat too.
i love all these old buildings
i went into 93, i loved in there, history dating back to the 30's. by the way radical ed, youre stupid, there arent any racoons in the building,
There were many raccoons inside every time I've been there...
went inside this building last week. its one of the easiest buildings to get into on the grounds. note: all of the ground floor windows of building 93 have been re-welded.

since motts doesnt have any pics of inside this building, here are a few. (i know that motts would of taken way better pics than this)

I don't what saddens me more...knowing the history of KPPC,(warehousing the mentally ill) or seeing these magnifacent structures rotting away.

But that aside, the pics you have taken are superb!!
i found the cutest smallest kitten outside of this building <3
I really enjoy riding my mountainbike throughout the old grounds. The views of the sound and of the surrounding area are amazing. They would be making a disastrous mistake if they develop this land. Long Island is far to built up already. There is not much open space remaining. This is a precious piece of property that should remain in the hands of NY State Parks Department in order for future generations to enjoy. It would continue to add to the quality of life of all Long Islanders if it were to remain in their hands.
I first visited my oldest sister at Kings Park in 1953. I was shocked at the overwhelming people put there, all the families suffering. I knew what her losses were: freedom, a husband, a brand new infant son, a son aged two, a comfortable home- she had made comfortable, her piano playing and singing and amazing sense of humor, her friendships, her athletisism, her way of having fun, her ability to do a good job. I thought that the sum total of all the losses represented there would fill the whole of Long Island. I was 12 years old. My sister was 26 i'll never forget her screams from the bars of a third floor barred window, her two year old crying back. She was a very mentally ill person before she got her medications and was at Kings Park for 32 years. She would go out and work for a while. Stop taking her meds and end up back at Kings Park. There were good times there and friends over the years. There were hard hurtful times there that she had to endure. In 1985 I had her transferred to a hospital near me and she lived seven happy years ending up with her own apartment job and a sister for a neighbor. I am very grateful for the many staff people and workers at Kings Park who did make my sister's life and losses easier. I hope the people viewing the abandoned hospital understand it is a precious, spiritual place. because no one
Susan Taylor,
You are incredibly empathetic. In my experience the worst thing about mental illness is all the losses you endure. She never lost you though, and she was lucky. Your sister is also a testimony to the fact that people with severe mental illness can live outside of an institutional setting, have a job, and be happy. She must have felt grateful to have you.
