Whatchamacallit?
It's a thingamyjig.
My grandmother, God rest her soul, would have called it a "Cumezekyama"
If this photo was taken on the floor and where I think there are they are for the fire sprinkler system.
Tony C. you must call me and pronounce that for me!
"Cumezekyama"

Koo-MEH-zeh-kee-AH-mah, I b'lieve.
a Cumezekyama wrapped in pretty asbestos paper..
what model number is this?
Lynne, are you Italian? Thanks, I couldn't have done better!
I can still call you, if you need, ~Me!
<Thats-a Nize-a!>
What a place!!
If I'm not mistaken, it's actually a "doohickey"
You are mistaken, it's a thing-a-majig installed on pipes.

You can tell the difference by the little valve rotater thingie on the top right of it.
But my mothers cousin, twice removed on my fathers side, used to work on these back in the '10s, and when I showed him this photo he said its definately a doohickey, but perhaps he didn't see the thingee. Perhaps they used doohickeys when a thing-a-majig wasn't available, due to funding.
It's very posible! But the thingee whould let you adjust the whatchamacallit, so it was safer.
Oh, well that explains it!

See, my mothers cousin, twice removed on my fathers side that I was telling you about, who used to work on these back in the '10s, he lost three toes, two ribs and his right eyebrow when the doohickey malfunctioned, causing a horrific accident. If only they had spent that little bit extra and used thingees, it wouldnt have ended in such a tragedy.
You guys crack me up!
See? The Italian Cumezekyamas never failed, or caused injuries like the eyebrow thing...tsk....A shame...Did the eyebrow grow back?
Well by the time it grew back, he'd gotten used to only having the one, so now he just shaves it.
Thats a occilating (sp) Kanuetter Valve. Its the modern version of the whatcamacallit thingy. It was used for back flushing all the soap dispensers. you know to git rid of those hard dry clumps that build up on the ejection end of the dispenser. Nowa days I think they still use the water wigget system.
It's a release valve on the pipe and a controller probably for steam
Naaah, it's a whatsamabobbin used in the '30s to connect to a bank of doohickeys that prevented oscillating back flow into the Cumezekyama so the whatchamacallit wouldn't pop the thingee into a overpressure. Simple science boys and girls!
These were designed to prevent the nasty eyebrow thing from happening!
(And they make a hell of a cup of coffee too!)
Did someone say HICKEY??????
This looks like a fire sprinkler control system to me.
A connects G G connects M M connects V V to X that shows prressure going to G again and viceversa???
It's just a gauge, some valves, traps, and some other things I can't quite make out. Screwed pipe with most likely asbestos insulation. It's hard to see, but if that is in fact a trap, this would have been a steam line.
My mum would have called it a "wigwam for a gooses bridle" !!
It's obviously a whatsamaboobie for controlling a steam doohickey that has since gone kaput.
You guys are funny
