Dixmont seems brighter than other places. I mean more windows and light coming in. No doubt it was a dark place for many.
Yes, Dixmont dose have a lot of windows, and allows a vast amount of sunlight in during the day.
No doubt it was sadly dark for many.
I was thinking that the windows at the ends of the hallways are very large and bright. But who knows they may have been covered in heavy curtains in their day too.....
Thank you Motts, for capturing these places on flim, because of it, these places will remain.
WHAT A VIEW!!!! NICE!!!!
I miss dixmont!!!! god damnit
Nice pic
I think that most Kirkbrides tended to be fairly bright; the darkness in most of them would have more to do with the fact that most of them are sealed.
Spooky looking place are there any ghost reports?
Of coarse Dixmont had alot of windows, it was the first "hospital" where they actually cared about the patients well fare and didn't lock them in a dark hole. They even let the patients go outside for fresh air, and to grow things in the garden, and just enjoy the nice weather.
Wow, what can I say. I really miss this place! If you liked to visit Dixmont. Visit other remaining Kirkbride building's such as Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum ( Weston State Hospital) You thought Dixmont was creepy. Wait untill you see the largest hand cut stone building in America. If you would like more info shoot me an email at Terrorvisions@yahoo.com
Thanks; Weston State Hospital was pretty cool, but there was something sterile about it... I personally enjoyed Dixmont more :-)
WoW..what a nice pic but izzit real haunted??
Code - i was up there a few times, i heard and saw a few things that i could not explain. freaked me out!
last min of freedom
Wow...
This place has all these windows to let in lots of light, yet for some (most?) people, it was the darkest place they could ever be in.

Irony anyone?
definitely a very dark, depressing palce
