The last evidence that there was once life in this building now waiting to R.I.P.
Pretty amazing that a mattress even remains.
Look at the condition. Would you take it? LOL
Nah, I wouldn't want to deprive you of it, PB. It's all yours! = )

Imagine the grime underneath that mattress.
Imagine the crud IN it too! Lynne hon who knows what may have been taking place on this old matress all these years later though? Eeewww!
Jude,

[stunned silence]
I came here for the pictures. At first, I didn't even notice there was comments below the photos. When I started reading them, it became addictive.

I found out that (almost) every detail in (almost) every picture is brought to my attention. Little things I missed, like dead flies on the floor are suddenly brought to my attention. Even the most mundane photo, such as a door saying 'Drug Room' will have fifty comments. All worth reading and being sad, funny and ed-u-cational all at the same time. You can't get much better than this.
Same here, I probably looked at the pictures for a week before I realized that you could comment on them. Now I go straight to the comment section to get my laughs....
I've been reading and finding that this is a group that I could learn alot from.

I've explored a few places in my hometown when I still lived there, but I never had the foresight to take a camera with me.

Now all that I have to explore where I live are old Gold Mines.... And there isn't much interesting inside a hole in the ground.
From reading the older comments, I've noticed a few names that are no longer active.

I've been exploring old buildings for years. A few years back we had a whole bunch of them here, that were open, and you could walk right in. All of these have become re-occupied again except one which burned to the ground.

Since I've been carrying a camera, I haven't found any that were 'open', but I have walked around the outside of a few. There are several along a major highway that takes you to Atlantic City.
Where I live most of the old buildings have been in use since the 1850s. The building I work in right now is now the PHF for the county; however, at one time it was the county hospital. The basement is way creepy. It was the mourge as well as the insanity ward. Now it's just storage.

I've already got permission to take a camera down there. Now I just have to remember to take the camera to work.
I made a java chat.. If you all want it.
You can find it here. Might make things a little easier on us all..

Thanks for dropping in Twug. Everyone can use that room as often as they want. I hope that Mr. Motts won't mind.
Just want to save him some bandwidth
Ah, Mattress Discounters will throw a cover on that thing and sell it as refurbished for $500.
I was lucky enough to go inside the Dixmont before it was demolished. This place was creepy as hell. And that was before the sun went down! Once darkness falls, you better make sure you have an extra flashlight.
I worked in the state hosiptal in Evansville Indiana 4 30 years before it was toren down this year no one took pictures that I know of . It also was a place you did not want 2 wonder around at night.
I visited Dixmont a week before they began moving in the earth movers... I spent 10 hours and 3 1GB memory sticks wandering the halls, tunnels, crevices, and crannies.
The strange things: I brought 3 flashlights in with me, 2- 3 cell maglights, and an old fashioned incandescent 2 cell in case of emergency. The maglights died extremely quickly, both were dead after an hour, and the old flashlight didn't even turn on. Fortunately, my 3LED keychain light led me to my cache of spare batteries, unfortunately, those too were drained. I bought the batteries an hour before I got to Dixmont... The LED light was my only source of illumination until I was picked up, and it was waning by 5AM. The pictures didn't come out either, the memory sticks were empty, as if formatted. since then I have used the camera, and all 3 sticks, and have never had a problem. The maglights are also healthy, as were the batteries I bought. weird.
I'll miss the old lady, I wish I had my own pics of her. Thanks, Mr Motts.
I didn't know if I should comment because I am so late getting here. I mean all the others are 05 and 06 and now it's 07. Then I reach the one by Doctor DETH, and now I don't feel so bad. See, Mr. Motts, years later people are still enjoying it for the first time.
I was briefly (sorry about the spelling) in a pyschiatric hospital and knew people who got sent to seclusion. Not a nice place to be at all.
Kinda miss the Thorazine in an odd way. Great work Master Motts. BTW, was Radical Ed with you and Lynn, really enjoyed your comments. PLS respond if you are still active.
I know that Lynne is still active, although, I'm not sure if she checks allot of the older comments or not. Not sure about Radical Ed. Check the forums out, allot of people that comment on here are on there also.
Oops! Missed this comment - thanks, Taubin, for alerting me. :-)
