Whoever you are Motts I give you alot of props on the photos... good shit
Now, doesn't that take the damned cake! Kudos!
I am a worshipper of pine trees--and they contrast nicely with the building. I hope whatever they do manage to save here, they can save the stately trees as well. Motts, or anyone, is one of the reasons this place is rotting is because the roof is so flat here and there's no where for water to drain?
another awesome pic
Awesome!!!!
The roof here is pretty solid, the problem areas are where the original slate roof is gone, exposing the wood underneath to the elements, which in turn makes the hole bigger, drips down into the interiors, and starts a chain reaction of slow destruction.
Thanks, Motts!
Awesome shot. Yes I can see some holes in the roof in this one, and I would imagine the damage below in those areas is extensive.
You are seriously turning me on to architecture Motts! I never noticed the amazing detail in these buildings before you came along. Marry me.
What if he's already married / taken? You'll have to settle for less then......*sigh*
LOCAL HISTORY SAYS THAT WHEN THEY SHUT DOWN , THEY FORGOT TO DRAIN THE WATER PIPES OR EVEN SHUT OFF THE MAIN SUPPLY FROM THEIR OWN RESVOIR[SIC] ON SITE .NOBODY NOTICED FOR OVER A YEAR WHEN SOMEBODY NOTICED WATER RUNNING OUT OF A DOOR.THEY FINALLY SHUT OFF THE SUPPLY[DAMAGE DONE] . SAY MOTTS,WHILE I'M HERE HOW ABOUT SOME PICS FROM "GRAY GABLES"? THANKS "MOE"
Funny how the holes are symmetrical - one either side of the doorway gable.

Moe, it's sad but this does happen. I've seen pictures of the Pines Resort on another site which show the heating system with full pressure still in it.

And as with the Pines, I wonder if a little time and effort spent on roof maintenance would have prevented millions of dollars worth of water damage in subsequent years as well as leaving far more options for the buildin's re-use.

How much would a couple of tarpaulins or sheets of corrugated aluminium for that damaged roof have cost, for instance?
The missing shingles on either side are probably not mere coincidence, there was a big fiasco a while back where people were throwing them off the roof, I don't know much about it.

Sorry Moe, I don't have photos of the Gables!
wow
ok this is my fave!
Does anyone else see "The shawshank redemption" rooftop scene in this pic?.....great shot motts..
omg i think theres a ghost on that balcony over there!
ok i can see it now. theres something what looks like a black transparent person standing on the stone balcony right ahead and staring at the photographer. maybe the copper plates at this position faded to black by any reason but if so its unusual to the other copper plates which are all in good conditions with its green patina. but it *really* looks like a ghost. best ghost pic of all and with a good chance for being a real ghost-pic. now this pic cached me up. :)))

motts did u notice any figure on the balcony when u took the pic? where u alone? did u feel somehow like being watched?
Oh yeah, that's my friend standing on the tower :)
oh what a pitty, no ghost-pic. =P the low contrast of his head and the copper behind makes him look like a transparent appiration. really f* freakin. 8-O

nontheless danvers hospital and the hill where it was build on is what ghost experts call 'the epicenter of haunting energy'. u really got some balls to enter this place. ;-)
This would be a wonderful picture that one would wanna frame and display... i don't know about anyone else but i would so like to display it in my office its a wonderful picture!!!!
Wonderful!!!
i have to side with everyone and say that motts is a genius of the camera! beautiful pics! and u r brave to go here and take those pics, i wouldn't, i would probably wet myself! lol
Totally agree, your are a master.
Absolutlie wounderful!
awesome shot
I'm still trying to find the so called ghostly looking image of Mott's friend. Err can't find it!!
Ohh I See, wow he looks like hes so far away
i read an interveiw from a worker and he sed when he worked there they shut down one of the building and the maintinence used it for storage but one day they got a call and told them to turn off the heat to the abanden part of the building so they did but no one tuned off the water so they froze and burst and ruind every thing. he was also saying that he had to clean the boilers they would turn one off at a time and he would clime inside to clean each one he sed they where 100 degress in them and he had to scrub each pipe 1 at a time and could only spen 20 minut intervals in the boilers because it was so hard to breath. he was also saying that they had a 15 year old patent who climed up into the air ducts and slid down to the heating coils and burned up it took thema few days to find his buned body he sed he had to help cut it out.. he also was the one who cleand the water towers like once a monthe he sed he hated it
That is so saddening. For such beautiful architecture and such history to have it fade away or be demolished is just heartbreaking.

Amazing photography that just makes me weep for all who found this massive structure to be a home.
i think that is awesome
Nice rule of thirds Motts.....
Say are there any of these types of Buildings in Florida? should you know any names I can research them myself....
There were some scenes from Session 9 where they were on a flat roof -- maybe it was this one.
yea it was the main prortion they where in you knwo the kichen aria LOL the center on the bat or the body but u know now thats all been tourn down that just makes me so mad makes me want to email avalon bay and cuss the out for it LOL bad temper
When I worked at Danvers State, was on this room many times. A security guard gave me a master key so I could go anyplace we wanted. Also, Session 9 filmed one of their scenes on this roof . .
So many angles, the spire, the small pyramid with the dark door, the billowing clouds -- beautiful picture -- but all your pictures of Danvers are beautiful, Mr. Motts.
wow motts what an amazing pic. i love architecture and this building is incredible. the building is so sad but i love the pics.
this hospital is saying dont tear me down learn something from me. this is a beautiful old building motts. the roof shots are great
i dont see the ghost!!! >.<

speaking of that, has anyone here ever seen a real one in real life? i've seen an apparition, even though i dont believe i have. my friend who's a medium can see them says that i did, since she was there and saw him fully. of course we knew the ghost...he lives in her house and followed us while we were on vacation.
YES
My unit was the last unit to move from the Kirkbride to the Bonner Building. What sped up our departure, was a fire hose stand pipe on the second floor of the B building ,burst and the water was cascading down the annex stairs. it was spilling onto the B ward floor. There was a fire exit door at the bottom of the starirs so I kinda hugged the wall and shuffled alonf a out cropping of the wall the bannister was bolted to got out a few feet, hung on for life and kicked at the door handle until the door opened and the water was shunted out doors into the area between b and C building
I was at danvers on 7/15 and most of this is all gone now. Just the center building stands- all the auditorium and everything behind the center building is gone- I was standing back there on the old wooden stairs until the security guards came. I just got a warning though. At least pictures exist of this place!!!
TRULY AWESOME PICS!! WHAT A SHAME THAT THIS PLACE COULDN'T BE SAVED. WHAT HAPPEN TO PRESERVING HISTORY. MY COUSIN WAS IN THE BONNER BUILDING, NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO PEAK INSIDE THE MAIN GOTHIC BUILDING.
its to bad they tore down the old building i really loved the place seems you cant save anything these days ...i was able to walk through the whole building on more than one occasion we paid off a security guard and spent one whole day and evening up on the hill.. very sad place and the vibe that the building gives off is almost satanic i think...my good friend used to work at danvers state until the day it closed. he saw the horror that went on in that place he was the one who first told me how to navigate the building becuase of its imense size. he told me about the doctors labotomizing people just because of over population. by the way if you didnt know frontal lobe lobotomy was developed at danvers something i had thought about many times while walking through
The prefrontal leucotomy was developed by Egas Moniz of Portugal, for which he later won the Nobel Prize. Psychiatrist Walter Freeman and neurosurgeon James Watts changed the operation to the more familiar trans-orbital lobotomy and were at George Washington University Hospital, although Dr. Freeman traveled across the country to "spread the good word" about lobotomies.

I didn't know that frontal lobe lobtomy was developed at Danvers. How do you know that Mike?
unlike bartonville state hosopital danvers was the best of the best RIP
This is %^&$#%^ scary
I have to say, "you are truly talented. You have reminded to utilize the 'gift of sight'."
Thanks
I'm dating a guy who's lived in Danvers his whole life, and he's been exploring for a while. He and his friends used to come to DSH and set off fireworks from this roof. He actually used to work security here too. He's got tons of videos from his time at DSH on YouTube. Lucky guy he was to be able to experience this place so thoroughly.
that picture is very awsome motts great shot the dark skies over top of these beautiful gothic buildings
im back!!!
