No, I am so very sorry but it is most certainly NOT time to leave! Get back there and take more pix! >:-(
Thank-you. *head bowed reverently* Again, I feel small. This gallery was intense.
Stunning as always, thank you Motts.
Thank You Mr.Motts!!! (obvously your vacation wasn't "to get away from us") ;-)
Gorgeous!!!Love your sense of perspective and light, Mr. Motts. These old hospitals are so exciting to see through your lens. You have a wonderfully romantic vision. Its great to see the insides of these places you always wondered about.
again Motts, another amazing gallery. thank you
*Clap* clap*
Once again I'm so sad it has come to the end......I hate that part so much. Thank you so much Mr. Motts for sharing your talent with us. Come back soon please!!
Mr. Motts, as always, you've stirred a form of emotion in myself, but this time, it's an odder one. One of recollection, seeing as this shot, for some reason reminds me quite a bit of the old school in which I used to take Enrichment (Gifted Learners, Intellects Annonymous) Courses at.
The door frame style, trim and everything!
Thanks for this lovely gallery.

Thanks for the pictures in your News/ Main pages from your recent vacation as well, I'd love to view more.
Veery good! I've been waiting for a new gallery! I must say you could do this for a living!! Keep up.
awsome! that's it
Yep, awesome. We'll be waiting for more.....
Motts, again another great gallery, cant wait for the next one

Mr Motts, I can only say thank you so much for this trip through my memory. Both good and bad you have braught things back to my mind Ithaught I would never think of again and for that I thank you so very much. My only hope is to be able to go back there before it is demolished as they say it will be. I beg you please, If you plan another trip before this happens please let me know, I would love to go there once again. Thank you so much. wickedwiccan77@yahoo.com
my favorite pic of the danvers collection
EWW! NASTY! Great photo!
I have found this gallery absolutely amazing. If I have a few billion to throw around property in MA sounds rather nice. I love history and preserving it. If they will not save these then morecredit to you Motts for immortalizing what once was on film. You are a wonderful artist and I do hope to see more from you in the near future.
wonderful photograhy! i tip my hat to u. keep up the great work, i especially love the black and white photos
From the moment I first saw Session 9, I just had to get more info about the place.Your photos are unbelievable! I don't know anyone who wouldn't love to explore until they drop. I know I would. THANKS.
does anyone know how much of the building has already been torn down?
Try this web link:
http://www.danversstat...lum.com/buildid.html
It's updated periodically to display the status of the Danvers Kirkbride and other surrounding buildings.
Motts very nice job, very nice indeed, one question, DO THEY LET CAM-CORDERS AND OTHER ELETROIC DEVICES IN? (start's shaking like a little fat kid in a candy shop)
Thanks, no actually no one is allowed on the property much less inside the building.
Motts, was the door really that crooked or did you shoot that at an angle to make the photo look like this, either way cool pic!! :-)
Wow....amazing. Danvers State Hospital is amazing, and I live about...id say...1/8 of a mile away from it. Creeps me out. My uncle used to work at the Honda place across from danvers state. He said he heard some freaky noises from time to time. So, yeah, if you ever read this, E-mail InYourHonorDOA27@aim.com or AIM InYourHonorDOA27 (coincedence, huh) AWESOME PHOTOS!
Damn, the tore down almost all of it except for the G Ward. I wish i could have gone inside. This is the ebst website to see what it looked like. Great photographs.
TO TELL U THE TRUTH THIS WAS VERY EMOTIONALY FOR ME ITS JUST SO SAD TO SEE SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL TO GO AWAY I JUST CANT BELEIVE THAT IS GONE ALMOST
great 1 motts i would do anythin 2 go there!

p.s i want more pics!
ANYthing?
Right now all that is left of the entire Danvers complex is the center admin building with the two sections directly attached to it. That is all that will permanently remain. What is left to be demolished is the water tower, C ward, and thats about it. Everything else is pretty much gone. Including all of the lower grounds buildings
Ryan, I just went on the Danvers website www.danvers-state-ia.com but they haven't updated the site since April 28. You can also see the demolition pictures on this website. So, thanks for the info. I don't live in Massachusetts, but I sure supported the Danvers Preservation Commission and signed their petitions. Well, you know the old saying "money talks"
Its Gonna be a rough one when they convert the building into condo's. I just wanna go home!!
i dont want to see the building go...it is far to special to me and its truly historic..please save davnvers!
Go into the Forum and then into the photography section. You can see what is left of it as of last week!! What a shame -- SHAME ON THEM!! [crossing index fingers on top of each other]
All that is left is C ward and the water tower
thanks again motts your pics r amazeing. you are very brave how come u didnt get caught in there.
I can't help but cry at this last photo. I don't want to leave this gallery. Mr. Motts, your photos have been the most moving pictures I have ever seen. This building will always haunt me, as well as the morons who decided to tear it down for some cheap meaningless condos and partments. How engrossing!?! I loved reading the comments to the photos as well... I love how it felt like being in a room with people and listening to a discussion. The more I looked on, the more alive it became. It might sound sort of strange, and maybe I am just a dramatic person about this... but I feel like part of me is with Danvers... and with every hospital that faces any portion of demolition. In my perspective of the issue, I think now a days people are pathetic... they could just want to tear down anything with a narrow minded thought, and pave over all the land around us simply for the generation of profit and money. It truly disgusts me.... How disrepectful and cheap people can be. They see no value in anything... unless it has a price tag on it or is personal to them in some way.

I would love to have a box of rubble or dirt from inside these walls. Even though it is not mine to have, nor is the ground this building stands on is any builders to reshape... It's just to me, that this building owned itself. The life inside of it, yes life... was living here. It was thriving in all the hearts of those who encountered or set eyes on it. It may sound like some kooky stuff, but tearing down monuments like this is outright slaughter... to the spirit/s that live here, and to part of humanity in many people.

savewolfie@yahoo.com
C ward has been torn down, all that is left is the water tower. The only thing that they will keep is the main administration section and one ward on each side.
All these pictures will be reminders of what a gallent structure Danver's was. Thanks to you, Motts, all her images will be preserved.
I wonder.....how did you feel while in the hospital? Did you pick up on any energies? Did you feel any of the sorrow or pain that must still be present in such a place. Thankyou for sharing part of it with me. Enjoyed it much.
I love all the pictures on this site, especially of places like Danvers, which I used to live near.
My husband and I took a drive to the ocean Monday and stopped by Danvers on our way home, it is so unreal to see it just a shell of what it used to be.
The main entrance paving has been all torn up and it is just bizarre to look up and not see anything.
We drove around to a road not far away where you can look right across at the front of the admin building, again, it was so weird to see.
All that is left is the front wall of the main admin building and the two immediate wings.
The water tower is still standing, for now.
I don't quite know why, but looking at it filled me with a sense of loss and sadness.
wow these shots are amazing..yesterday i actually went w. a group of friends to try and see the place and it was sad to see most of it gone..it should be a crime to tear down that building..its historical
Thanks Mott's for the pics, now that the place is almost all torn down now we never would have got a chance to really view this place again.
Thanks Motts
Even though the buidings are gone, you have given us a gift of memory, and thats the best thing to have.. These buildings will never be forgotten

R.I.P DSH
HOW DID U GET IN , IN THE DAY TIME? NOT FAIR!
needs moor pics dude
not fair at all
tthat move is gast a idea
ive lived in ipswich my whole life and never got to go there wish i did . motts thank you for taking me inside with these great pics...
dang its very cool and exciting!?!?!
Sad to say tthe hospital burned to the ground today; the old part and the new apartments/condos.
The only part of the original building that burnt was one of the spires, which burnt due to excessive heat. The other things that burnt were 3 60-70 % completed apartment buildings and various construction trailers/buildings. Actually you can drive right up there now, security is gone.
you go where no man whould ever go.thanks motts
that is wrong that they would destroy the building
Short answer greed. Although sales aren't near as brisk as they anticipated
THANKS FOR SAVING D.S.H. FOR US MR MOTTS HAVE YOU GOT ANYTHING ON THE ESSEX COUNTY SANITORIUM IN HATHORN MA.?
There was good reason for them having the place locked down. There was very sensitive information being stored inside the facility and they wanted to make sure nothing leaked out.
that was so beautiful i think i might throw up
Mott, you are awesome, all the pics on this sites are awesome.
is that peeling pain, mold, or fire damage on that door?
Seriously man, fucking awesome pics, I wish the building was still there, I wish that they preserved it and didn't make what was left after demolition into condos
I can't take my eyes off this entire website. I have never seen more moving photographs ANYWHERE. To say you have a gift for preserving the different moods of history is an understatement. I feel you are honoring all those who actually had to call these places home and what they must have gone through at the time. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This has got to be one of my top 10 favorite galleries!!!
If anyone has further information on the campus/hospital (stories, heresay, etc) or has any websites that would be useful to check out, POST IT! :)
U know u can go to the memroial site and help it look wonderful!!!!!
I just found this site tonight and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I work in a psychiatric hospital myself that is over 100 yrs old,I love these pics you get a feeling of actualy being there, keep up the great work you are doing and look forward to more phots.
whoa, they're building up there!
Do they know the cause yet? This Hospital carries a lot of scary stories / happenings that we have discussed over the years.

Ever watch Session 9? It is real freaky watching that movie after hearing a bunch of the stories in advance, like the gallow tree for instance.... The tree the guy is leaning on at the end is the tree that many people chose to hang themselves from.

Sorry I don't know of any sites Allie, but there are lots of local stories that I'm sure at least a few of have been published somewhere... unfortunately my source for most of them eventually took his own life as well.

I did nearly end up in cuffs myself one time I went up there. I had been up before with friends that went to the Agricultural school nearby, so I didn't think it was a big deal. I think Session 9 drew too much attention to it.... but it's really probably best to leave the hill alone anyway.
hah its cool now, how this place is apartments. my friend lives here and im there all the time we went into the graveyard at night and theres nothing scary at all. also we explored the whole building nothing scary still, then again its all brand new now.
oh yeah and while i slept over his house at night while we were at the danvers state asylum (now called Danvers Avalon) we watched session 9 lol
why u didn't do some of the picture in the nite time
that is one foreboding entryway. thanks for the tour Mr. Motts. i love this stuff. it's both facinating and educational. this building or buildings, i should say; are beautiful in their decay. i am a new fan of yours and hope to see more of your perspective soon. thanks for sharing your eyes with me.
Just found your site after watching Session 9. Beautifully haunting pictures. I remember as a young teen going there with the youth group from church. I also remember being totally freaked out by it. Going through the wards and having the nurses lock the doors behind you. I thought that these were people forgotten. That was a long time ago but a memory that haunts me.
