beautiful angle
It breaks my heart to think they will demolish these. I have such a soft spot for the Kirkbrides - this is sad for that reason. The history, especially of this place, is truly amazing. As a mental health clinician I think these places serve to remind us both what has been done correctly and what has been done incorrectly in the past. As someone who is actively involved in setting up a museum for an almost 100-year old MR/DD institution, I want to get my hands on similar articles such as you have found for preservation and display. :-(
Lynne, that's why you need to do the copy for Motts' books. I would love to help, too. : )
If he'll have us.
Lynne, I think you need to get yourself along to Danvers before they turn it into a yuppie zoo and see if you can 'liberate' some of the artefacts (with permission, of course...)
If I thought they would let me look through the buildings and pick up some stuff for our museum (or any museum), I'd be up there in a heartbeat!

However, I am such an old-fashioned type that I would need not only permission but written, signed, sealed, and legally affadavited permission. ;-)
Sneaking around would be fun too!! ;-)
Oh Lynne, you have to try dear, can you imagine when it's too late how awful that will feel? I wish you luck, girl!
See. I really like this one too.
Please someone tell me that before this place is reduced to rubble, someone will go in and retreav at least some of the articles that sit within. And if this happens please tell me that I can come with you, if for nothing more then a spare set of arms to help with the lifting.
Almost everything left behind that could be unfastened has been taken, from documents and audio reels to the weather vanes on the roof.
the outside looks strong. it a shame that it will be done away with.thanks to people like u, we can get to see what the past was. thank u for sharing ur time and pictures.
this is one of the most beautiful building s that I ahve seen, did they tear the whole thing down or are they going to salvage it? it would be ashame to see such a wonderful part of history go to waste??
i want to cry i love this place, i think that we should go there and go on strike im thinking that is a pretty good idea. i just cant beleive that they can just do that i mean come on who do u think really is going to live there on that property this place is a landmark it cant go im so sad about this. When r they going to tare it down? tears tears
I just wish that when people posted comments, they would take the time to use "spell check", a Thesaurus and proper grammar. I feel like I'm reading things an illiterate eight year old would have written.
Oh man DK, you and me both! Some days I get a headache just trying to figure some of these comments out... :)
Amen DK!!!
I keep coming back to this site, and especially this picture, to express my dismay at its demise.
It looks like the old dorms on my college campus.
that is kinda creepy
It looks as though it were a model.
