No Floors

No Floors

The floors got pretty bad here and there, but this seemed to be the worst of the rot. The walls are still sturdy, and it looks like all of the Kirkbride building can be renovated.

amazing pic motts. I wish i could actually see something like this in person.
It's nuts how this all was once brand new and had people all in it....and now it just doesnt, and is rotting away
Talk about the bottom dropping out.

Is that a slab tub bolted to the wall on the third "floor"?

This is an awsome shot!
Holy damned guacamole! =8-o
I*am*speechless* for once.
Good grief.

Quite a shock, I'd imagine, to push open a door or turn a corner and suddenly find yourself staring down a yawning, three-storey hole!
Or walking out into mid air...
Yeah, I thought I'd see how long you remained speechless. ;-)
Suddenly I have a mental image of stepping out of a door onto a floor that isn't there, looking around unhappily for a couple of seconds Sylvester-style, before plunging to the bottom with a little puff of smoke, just like in the old cartoons...

On second thoughts, I'm glad it only happens in cartoons :-)
I came acroos this web site on accident when i was lookin up information in the willowbrook state school....the pics on here are absolutely amazing....and alot of them depict the living conditions in thses schools and hospitals very well... im an employee of the central new york DSO andive recently been spending alot of time looking in to the history of these opld state facilities and such... i was wondering if u had any info on willowbrook????
Looks like something you would see in a German Expressionist film.
that counter is so cool how its looks like its "floating" in the air its amazing what kind of shots places that we ue give off.
how do you find these places?
motts, totally surreal, excellent shot!
That sink is the icing on the cake
Wow, amazing shot Motts!! The tub/sink thingy up there hanging on so fiercely is the best part.

Nick said it perfectly....that's exactly what I feel when I look at all of your pictures, it's amazing that it was once all brand new and busy with people, and now it's all dying and silent.......
where was this inside of dsh? its amazing how the entire inner structure is gone yet the walls hold true.
Must have been a slow collapse, the windows on the lower most floor still have their curtains.
Very cool Picture. I've only seen the outside of the buildings. I was able to sign up for the tours a couple of times but they obviously don't let you inside. I'm curious which part (wing) of the building this picture was taken. I probably have pictures of it from the outside.
This is why they want you to stay the hell out of there.
I wish Northhampton could look so buetifull like this building. This shot is Just AMAZING Motts. Espaccely the tub bolted to the wall. Makes It look Haunted.
jesus, you're one brave bunny to have the guts to go inside there...
wow it took a little bit for the pic to sink in and actully relize what i was looking at. such a wonderful shot with the sink bolted to the wall imagine what could have been done in these room many years ago.. wow great job!!!
do you know what area of the building this is in? is the floor gone in all of the buildings? i guess they have taken the wood of the windos last week...has anyone seen any pics of this or of the inside lately?
There something stuck on the third. I wonder what it is.
WOW, lets hope those wankers agree about the renovation bit, spectacular building!!!
wow everything is gone but the kitchen sink 8-)
damn thats a sick photo i havent been there since high school in the early 90's and dont ever remember the place seemin like it would be that bad in that short a time. it was always spooky as hell and i remember the run thru the field to get there used to scare me almost as much as getting in did. I wonder tho' how the hell do you get in there in broad daylight motts??? amazing dude good f'in job!!!
When they closed off sections they decided to shut off the heat to those areas. But they left the water on, so the pipes froze and broke flooding the floors with tons of water.
Look at the curtains on the first floor
that is so creepy
This picture is so amazing!! An old fashioned sink just floating on air -- I wonder if it has an old fashioned soap dispenser!!
thatsss soooo werd
good job motts. your one brave lad. this pic looks like ww2 london after the bombing. there's those curtins again.
Tell me please, How much survives of any of these buildings? I'm having the time of my life just reading people's comments!! Some are so hilarious! Loved the one by Kahuna69!!
I came across this site at work a couple weeks ago and wanted to get involved, but I was blocked.. Mr Motts, you are one of the most talented artists I have ever seen, and would not only buy a book of your work, I would go out and promote it. Beautiful work. Thank you.
the sink/cabinet hanging there is a nice touch.
I like the wood sticking dagger points into the shot.
Right now I'm reading a book on Danver's and I just had to come back to this site and look at the pictures. Probably by now, everything's gone; am I right?
omg that is a-maz-ing...very creepy shot... but among the best...great work...<3
wow!!!!
Looking at CNN today 04/04/07 , some portion of this complex is on fire.
it looks like someone is leaning over the
balcony
A relative of my mother's, who was a child with developmental disability (profoundly mentally retarded) lived in Willowbrook in the 1950's, I think. This was a relative of the famous New York City radio personality, Dan Ingram. The family hushed up the fact that this child was in this place. My mom tried to get the kid released, but to no avail.
can anybody say noose time?
I saw something like this in an old Mill.. which has since been turned nto flats :(
wot i would give to see this in person, to walk these grounds, motts? have you ever photographed any paranormal images or has anything you cant explain happened to you whilst at danvers?
thats a sink that was stronger than the floor i guess
damn you would think the sink would have been the one to cave in very nic pic motts how i only wish i could see it for real
This comment is a bit late but just exactly where were you standing to get this picture? I see they've renovated this entire complex and are now luxury apartments, retail and offices. They did a fantastic job of renovation but honestly, would you be able to live in a place that once was a hospital? I know I probably could!!
I was standing in a hallway, which was intact for the most part, looking into a doorway of this collapsed area. I can't remember which wing or ward I was on though.
I've since read some comments left by residents of this apartment complex now. 95% of them say NOT to move here. The sound is horrible, you can hear practically everything your neighbors are doing, above you or next door, the space is drafty and the heating bills are horrendous. Not to mention all the negative comments they said about the management there. It's a shame that everyone that lives there now has complaints and seems to be unhappy. Plus a few of them did mention the fact it was a hospital and say they hear strange noises and wonder if it's haunted. So maybe the old spirits there don't like the new facade and rather it was left to rot. Personally I wouldn't mind living there. I could deal with the spirits and hauntings but the noisy neighbors would have to go!
