It's a wonderful shade of blue, seriously. It seems so bright and out of place here amidst the rest of the decay.
I agree.
Wow what a crisp shot Motts, and yes it's a pretty shade of blue.
j/w wats a ward i been on this wedsite the last couple days and i think its the shit and in most of the pics it says ward** wats the mean??
Ward:

1. A room in a hospital usually holding six or more patients.
2. A division in a hospital for the care of a particular group of patients.
oh i c now thanks man hey j/w how is the patrol round the hospital??
another great one motts!
FROM BEYOND THE DOOR!
can i see another one of my toilety phobias beyond that door? Those horrible rectangular london underground tiles; Arrrrrrgggghhh!!!!!
I just have to tell you that this site, as beautiful as it is, brings tears to my eyes. My brother, may he rest in peace spent almost his entire life at this hospital. I can only explain in useless words the feelings this site has braught to me. I have been in those buildings many times as a child, and still see them as they were.
i had a dream once after coming home from the mental hospital. In my dream was a bathroom, and in this bathroom, the ceiling was flaking and mold, slime, and green algea was growing on the walls. Rodents started coming after me, and that was when I woke myself up screaming. I have toilet-phobia (those that are in parks, and old buildings!).
The two empty spaces on the door looks like eyes.
the dream deafangel had, sounds like a very scary one at that, but coming home from a mental hospital? they'd keep you there just to do fracking inhuman surgary and S*** like that,
Brad, do you know if they did surgary like that? or even attempted that that sort of thing, if you don what to answear then jus forget it
You could just imagine some standing there in the darkness

*shudders*
Was this shot from inside the ward or outside? Through the door seems so... sad.
I'm pretty sure this was shot from inside the room...
Sara don talk like that... your scarying me, i read your comment then look at the pic and just try to imagine the patients, hell i'lll just try to imagine them playing tag or marco-polo in the dark....

(kick my self mentally)
brad so sorry about your brother. god bless you and him.
those paint chips look pretty damn tasty
this is for robbie, believe it or not those tiles which r in the industry called subway tile by the way, r very popular. some of the wealthiest people on the north shore of Nassau co.'s gold coast have that tile in their bathrooms.
I think that may be one of the reasons why i am so fascinated by these sites and Motts pics. he captures the essence of these places. So that even though they are decrepid now, U can still envision what they were once like. I believe that is what makes these places so tragic now. Because u know that though these places were needed, there was few if any souls saved because of them. Yet if U take things and pull them apart, like the tile that is used or those wooden double doors that were in the basement archway, they are magnificent in and of themselves.
motts this looks like blood it has a horrible presence around it
Why would they put blue in a mental institution? Blue is known to be depressing. Either way, wish I could have visited this place...at least the outside. ;)
your all freaking NUTS get out of this hell hole.
You can't get lead poisoning just from breathing around lead paint.
The place was painted in a lot of pastel colors. Lead pain not so much. It was there certainly, but it wasn't used a lot on the interior. Asbestos was the major culprit at the Hathorne Hilton
I hate open doors out of no where
Hey does that look like a skull coming up the stairs
Usually I have trouble seeing the "ghosts" you people are always seeing... but this is a first for me not being able to see a skull or the stairs it's climbing...
Yummmmmmmm, paint chips with a nice mold dip... Anyone want a late night snack?
Part of our hall bathroom, the larger room with the sink and counter and closet is painted a lovely shade of blue a bit darker than this, it isn't at all depressing rather it is c.Ww, the smaller room holding the tub and toilet is white with 70s god tile and I think is more depressing and blah then th blue section of our bathroom.
Well that didn't post right. What I meant to say is the larger part of our hall bathroom is painted a shade of blue just a bit darker than this door and isn't at all depressing, in fact it is calming. The smaller section of our bathroom, the W/C with the tub and toilet is painted white with that god awful gold tile from the 70s and is drab and depressing more so than the blue, larger room in our bathroom
Brad, I'm so sorry about your brother. I know how you feel, and my heart goes out to you. Mott, awesome photography!
Such sadness...I wish I could have helped them all!
The door has 2 eyes its cool.
Does any one see the person moving to peer at the person taking a photo of it. it makes the hair stand up on your neck,
