Extention

Extention

This was interesting, I'm not sure what it was for though. There is a hole in the floor of the extention with a rope hanging down... I wish I had gone back inside to shoot the inside of it to get a better idea of what it was.

Was there a gate nearby? At Sing Sing the on duty C.O. has to lower the key in a plastic bucket for his relief to get in at shift change.
Could be a sniper/guard post.
I was thinking that too Matt.
That's cool if you're feeling suicidal.
Rope hanging down huh? With a noose?
Bill.....

and you know this about SingSing because .?.?.?
I worked on an ambulance that was in there frequently. We had to pass through a gate with a similar set up.
i know this is a silly question but when they shut a jail do they move all the cons at the same time or a few at a time, imagine if they had to wait for everyone to finish their sentences first, how mad would that be....go on imagine it....go on.......
chopsuey, I don't know about moving prisoners when a jail closes, but when they do move them from one jail-state to another, I believe its usually done late at night, they don't even know their going until they wake them. They keep it quit so they don't have outside interference. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
Thats a Guard post, as i've been in it, had two phones and a chair in it. the hole is still a mystery
The hole was a way to pass items from the ground level up to the control picket (what the elevated guard houses were called at the prison I worked at). Originally, the rope had a bucket on it to facilitate passing a firearm or keys or lunch. Some of the architecture in this building was much like the prison I was stationed at in Southeast Texas.
Mr Nikon I do believe you've hit it
Moving prisoners from one jail to another may happen at any time of day, the inmates are told to get their shit together for transfer but arent generaly told untill they get to dock if its a block transfer or a jail transfer, in as much as when its selected transfer, otherwise they transfer tank by tank (most new jails have what are caled tanks which is a day room, and then then bunk room lined with bunks and a few toilets) to the next prison
F Troop
I worked there for years. During outside recreation, one CO w/shotgun would be posted inside this "tower." After rec was over, the shotgun shells would be dropped from the hole in the floor to the yard below and taken to the safe in the main rotunda.
When they moved the prisoners back in 92 they did it by bus loads. I think it took two days or so to move everyone
this is the guard tower that overlooked the rec yard and was manned with a armed guard during rec time..
