Awesome picture. Simple, but incredibly eerie.
What?......All my plants look that way!
Last time I hire that damn stoner kid to water my plants!
Mother Nature must seriously be ticked...
Weird to see the 'growing carpet' in the first few pics next to this!

I guess Mother Nature works to her own rules...
"When the rose is faded, memory may still dwell on her beauty shadowed, and the sweet smell gone."
"That vanishing loveliness,
That burdening breath
No bond of life hath then,
Nor grief of death."
Lynne, the walking poetry anthology. I will stump thee....I will! *rails with fist in air*
Dig the title, sounds like something from a horror movie. Can you hear the promo in your head? "Come visit the Atrium... of DEATH!"

Any idea why these died while the carpet decided to grow?
These probably died because they did not receive enough mosture at the roots due to the deeper hard pots. The carpet had moisture from both above (the failing roof), as well as a nice moist carpet to help them grow.
These plants are scaring the guests.
Now that is cool.
The hell with it, paint 'em green and open the damn hotel.
IF I REMEMBER IN THE 80S WHEN I WORK AT THE PINES THIS LOOKS LIKE THE CARD ROOM. AT NIGHT WHEN I HAD FREE TIME I USE TO GET CHANGE AND DRINKS FOR THE CARD PLAYERS. MADE LOTS OF $$$$$$.
This was not the card room, it was a little corner garden underneath the stairs.
BUT HEY TOM TOM, REMEMBER THAT TIME YOU GOT LAID IN 1980?
Of course he does - it's the only time it ever happened.
Sorry guy"s did not mean to piss anyone off. Ijust was bring up the past . Its been a long time. Since you know so much do you remember Hank Leads? I will try to refrain from any thing personal. I just had a lot of fun there and wanted to share my times there.
In the mid 80's I was a member of a group called Rainbow for Girls. Every year we had a state convention. We stayed at this place every year till they closed. It is so sad that it should have come to this.......
How many people can say they have experienced the season of fall....WHILE INSIDE!!

And bugout i agree, most of my plants look this way as well. I have 7 cats that eat every single plant i bring in the house so i have to keep them in a seperate room. Then i forget to water them =O( Dang cats!!
Beware of the plants....they are known to eat the guest
THEY EVEN LET THE PLANTS DIE?!?
This is one of the saddest things I have ever seen.

"The forgotten forest behind the glass,
A lush green floor all covered with grass,
Frozen in time for all to stare,
But there are no viewers here"
reddll -- beautiful thoughts!! Says it all, doesn't it!!
those plants look so brittle, if you touch them they will crumble to dust. eerie, yet at the same time brilliant!
Again..I don't understand..WHY leave the plants and take all the curtains?????? LOL
My guess is that the curtains were taken after the place closed. The plants were already dead.
why is it that no matter how many times I see forgotten plants it still kills me??
trapped and imprisoned in a pot and promised care... only to be left to slowly die without care or attention from anyone...
This picture fascinates me.
in response to Julies question..."WHY leave the plants and take all the curtains?????? "

The curtains and other useful decor were sold to other resorts that remained in operation (ie. the Villa Roma). Ironically, the curtains are gone since the leveling of the main bldg due to the fire in April '06.
Howie -- there was a fire at the Pines in April 2006? Do you have any more info about this?
There were never any curtains in this area.. it was a mini 'greenhouse' type nook under the stairs that led to the night club.
A fire in the main building? These shots were taken in 2003..
It seems sad that the plants kinda forshadow the future of the building falling in decay
" In the cottge of the rudest peasant ,In ancestral homes, whose crumbling towers
Speaking of the past unto the preasent. Tell us of the ancient games of flowers
In all places, then and in all seasons
Flowers expand their light and soul like wings
Teaching us by most persuasive reasons, How akin they are to human things...
I Worked there at The Pines. I helped set up Conventions and Worked with some Pretty Cool Guys from NYC! I wrote a Rap Song about Everyone Working Together. No! It Didn't go Platnum! I went up to Brooklyn to visit a Cousin and I wanted to visit Upstate New York, because When I was Younger, I lived in Monticelllo and I worked out of Mason's Employment Agency and would work at Different Country Clubs to help Pay My Bills and since moved to Texas to become a Federally Licensed Merchant Mariner and Work Offshore on Offshore Working Boats. I also write Scripts now. In 1992, I went to see some Friends I knew when I lived in Monticello and went to Meodoff's Employment & The Woman there hooked me up with The Pines & I Worked there until the Season Slacked, and returned to Texas to Continue My Job Offhore. I see these photos, and I am Saddened that The Pines was So Neglected and Left in the Condition it is in now! But... Nothing Ever stays the same and We Move on,I Guess! If Any of You Guys are reading this...HEY!! Stay Cool and May God be Your King!! WORD!
wow thats one of my favorite pics!
Damn this almost looks like the plants in my back office. I dont take care of plants very well LOL.
HA-ha !

whoops!-there goes my ethics............
earth tones
I can't believe they left the plants furniture and everything behind!! No wonder the place went belly-up obviously the owners didn't have a clue!! When a place goes under your supposed to auction off all the furniture and phones and (maybe not plants) But you think someome would have brought the poor things home or something!!
Or is it the Arbororetum of Doom?
This is simply what happens when you leave plants in an enclosed space with little oxygen, I believe.
You can't leave!!! All the plants are gonna die!!!
Natura będzie wygrywać , nawet Pyrrhic zwycięstwo jest zapewniane.
Nature will win, even a Pyrrhic victory. A lesson to you all. Do not leave your plants in an abandoned hotel.
I really love hearing all of the stories from people who use to work or stay here. It makes these pictures come to life and help me to imagine what these places must have looked like when they were occupied.
thats so creepy. its like everyone there just disapeared, like in those creepy horor movies, and the plants were the only living things left.
Alive? Hope YOU dont keep plants then....!!!!!
So, when they are green and lush, are they alive then or........
you're a nutball! ;)
Found this link about the hotel from 2008... doesn't paint the same picture these beautiful photo's once did.
Whaaaaaaaaa, Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa - how could they just leave (leaf) these plants behind?
They close down a hotel and can't even rescue the frign plants?? Wow way ta give a crap.

Question: Is the color of the sky blue or green?
