Someone needs to grab a broom ... this place is a mess!
Seems like a "fancy" paint job for a jail.
this place seems so cold..but id wear a jacket
Welcome to the furnace.
This picture is taken standing on the landing in the main block looking out into the rotunda. The door on the far wall is the front cage that leads out to York St.
Thanks for the great pictures, a true piece of history is being destroyed.
Thank you for all the information you've given!
I remember driving by on Columbus
Avenue at night in the summer and honking the horn and hearing all the answering yells. I always wondered how you worked there for so long and still kept your sanity.
Excellent shot,it is a jail made me creep and horror)))
I have lived In downtown Springfield and from that jail you could see the buildings on main st (tower Square And recently before the knock down
the newapaper said there was a gost from when the states last hanging took place in 1899 it was the guy who got hanged.
this gate led from the west block(pc&high profile cases) to the visiting rotunda.
Main door into office ,visiting area and where the gallows would be located. The last hanging was commemerated with a silver dollar embedded in the floor where he was hung.
Looks somewhat medieval.

Question: What is the first letter of the word "abandoned?"
