I don't think the prisoners would have had an opportunity to climb the bars in the foreground of this shot. it was probably just a "gate" between two sections of the prison, perhaps the bars there would just be to slow down prisoners in the even of a break out or a riot? just a thought...
I wonder if they were trying to keep them in with the sinks or out of the sinks?

That looks mad fun to try and climb, although maybe i would try it 50 years ago but not now.
this reminds me of the old york country jail in pa.... friends and i use to frequent it when younger looking at it 10 yrs later im not sure id be brave enuff to venture in with out my piece

this is where the boys cut hair and shaved each other it is at the end of the main bloc the chow hall is around the corner.
