It's amazing how much stuff grow up through the cracks in the asphalt.
And the arrows looked like they were painted yesterday.
Good eye Twug, I was just going to say that too, they look so fresh!
Motts that long white building in the back left almost reminds me of all the aircraft hangers I grew up around on Airforce bases.

This is a fabulous shot of a large area!!
where is the cop?
he should be in this shot
Center of the photo... see a green sign on a building in the distance? Follow the roofline to the left... there's the grey Crown Vic underneath the tree, looks like a blob from here though!
Oh you're sneaky Motts! LOL
Why is it always a grey Crown Vic?
That is our national police car. There is supposed to be a Dodge Magnum police car too, but I haven't seen one yet.
They're using a lot of Chevy Impalas in NYC nowadays. A copped out Mercury Marauder would be pretty sweet to have when doing this sort of thing though!
Yeah, I think the cops prefer the rear wheel drive Crown Vics, since the Impala's went to front wheel drive. Down here,in Doraville, they still have a few of the Impala SS rear wheel drive cars left, they may be drug seizure cars. They're pretty stealthy looking parked on the side of the expressways.
The long white building was called the palladium. It used to have private parties and weddings there. I used to be a dishwasher there in the mid 80's... my first job.what a shame.
This picture was taken from the loading dock of the "Cork Screw" roller coster.
Right PEP
JUDE THAT DOES LOOK LIKE A AIRCRAFT HANGER BUT TO ME IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE A ARENA FOR HORSES OR BARNS. MOTTS THIS PIC SORT OF LOOKS LIKE THE THREE COUNTY FAIR GROUNDS IN NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS IF IT WERE FORGOTTEN.
The building was shaped like an Airplane Hanger. They used that type of structural system because it would allow them to have a large open area inside. The Palladium was a Ball Room back in it's early days during the Big Band era.

The next big building not seen in this photo was the Penny Arcade. This has the video arcade games inside. The next large scale structure, also nt seen. It the Shore Dinner Hall. BEST CLAM CAKES in the world! I miss Rocky Point Clam Cakes! This really was a great park in the day.
Why doesnt anyone really know much about this place?
John Black knows a hell of a lot about this place. His comments are under some of the photos here and also in this forum thread: http://www.opacity.us/...m/viewtopic.php?t=75
This is where people would line up to get on the Corkscrew. There was a maze of handrails you would go through in order to get to the coaster.

It was five tickets (which was outrageous back then) but it was well worth it. It was a great rollercoaster and I was told that it was sold to another amusement park and is still in operation today.
The Corkscrew coast was purchased by SixFlags Enchanted village in Washington State and is operating under the name "Wild Thing".

The Cyclone Roller Coaster is now operating on Prince Edward Island in Canada at Sandspit Cavendish Beach.

The Freefall was renamed to Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall and is now located in Ohio (Cedar point perhaps...).
So sad,this one..........
Looks so sad
You all can ask me anything, I grew up there and visited that park every Summer.
The place still feels like it should be full of people, joyous and playing....
Amazing pic.

Ps to Sophia- See the "Caps Lock" key? Press it once, then tear it off.
Mr. Hyde's nasty fall was at Six Flags/Geauga Lake, in Aurora, Ohio.It was for sale last year. I don't know if it sold or not, but I believe they have removed it, to make room for something else.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE BIG WOODEN COASTER THERE IN THE90'S...IT WAS BIG AND WHITE AND HAD SOME GREAT TURNS. IW AS SO YOUNG BUT I REMEMBER HOW GREAT IT WAS...IS IT SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW?
Are you refering to the Cyclone? What i would love to see are pictures of the Kiddie Coaster that they tore down to make room for the Cyclone....
My mistake i meant to say the kiddie coaster was torn down for the corkscrew...
It hardly looks like that now...its all smashed, overgrown and nothing tall is still standing.
So sad that this park closed. These picture broght back lots of great memories of haunted houses and Clam Cakes.
Even more depressing than seeing the park empty is the plan to turn it into Luxury condos. It was and is such a part of the history of the city and the region. The sale of the property to the proposed developer is not yet closed - it is contingent upon the city granting approvals for the plan. I'm trying to gather some support for one last effort to pursuade the city to stop the condos from happening. I think many people in this state would love to see a small park, restaurant(s), a new palladium, even a small hotel and camping area there. There's room for a boardwalk, and tying the pier into our public transit's ferry system. There are 122 acres of land on that site, more than enough room for all of that and then some. If anyone's interested in getting involved in this, please email me at mhamel@richat.com
This was actually where u waited for the train.. its sad
I used to bartend raves at the Palladium
Would I ever LOVE to wander around this area!!!
Reminds me of that abandoned amusement park in Silent hill one. (the game)
that place was crazy fun the crazy part is getting blazed in that place....definately go to the morgue thats insane!
it still seemed to have that fun amusement park air to it even when it was closed...

but now its gone... all gone...
Its so sad to hear they want to knock this place down. I love it walk through it just closing my eyes and thinking of all the memories this lonley place has to share
it looks just like this small abandoned kiddie amusement park near where i live before it was turned into a gas station , but you ccan still see where the rides were.
what's the best way to get in there without getting caught by security? I want to explore it before they demolish the rest of it.
This was from the old station for the Corksrew Rollercoaster
I saw Janis Joplin play in the Palladuim in the late 60s. They had some great concerts in that building back then.
My God, where have all the good times gone? I can close my eyes and remember the screams from the house of horrors, the Yo-YO, the musik express and I could go on and on. I use to go there every friday night. Mom and dad would drop off me and my sister off and pick us up round 11pm we use to have so much fun. Ride all the rides you could for 4.75 P.O.P bracelet. Those were great days. Such a shame that they tore down the buildings the even the entrance sign. Isn't anything sacred anymore?????
The memories are still vivid in my mind. The signts and sounds of people having fun. 70s tunes blasting from the Music Express, happy tunes from the carousel. Clake cakes and chowder and stepping into that dining hall for the first time and seeing hundreds of tables. The smell of the ocean, the huge saltwater pool. All memories that are now demolished to make room for luxury condos. :-(
This picture looks like it is taken from where you would get on the corkscrew rollercoaster, and you are looking at where you would get on the kiddie train.
Do you have a video that is for sale for this? It would sell you know
How freakin' cool it'd be to walk around this place! Abandoned & creepy all rolled into one!
I showed these pictures to my mom, who is about 40, and shes was amazed at how it looked. She went here as a teenager and it was very active with people and the rides where big and bright, it looked nothing like this. It's funny to think about children and teens running around here playing and having fun.
I still find it hard to believe that my beloved Rocky Point is gone. When I was a girl I would save my baby sitting money, and go just about every week during Summer.

I remember fondly filling up on fried clams and then getting on the Scrambler ride and then spewing the contents of my gut all over the other riders, then running over to the Logger's Run to wash off in the splash. After I dried in the sun I would load up on fried clams and do it all over again.

Its been many years, but Rocky Point will always live in my heart. Its a shame that such a fun place is now just memories.
