That's just spooky, looks like it came straight out of an 80's Horror movie! That is where the best friend of the star of the movie should be found dead,, hanging from that hook.
Pobo, my thoughts exactly!

I'm wondering what it was for. Somehow related to those cleanout ports on the wall, above on either side? Motts, do you recall what was directly above, where the hook is hanging from? That might give a hint on what was this hook supposed to raise.
this captures the atmosphere well.
Lynne, above the hook was... uh, more industrial stuff! I really don't remember and I think if I did I wouldn't know what it was...
Ahem.

>:-( Since when is "Thad" the same as "Lynne"?

>:-( Go to your room right now, Mr. Motts, and no dinner!

>:-( And no TV or videos!
Whoops, sorry guys working overtime...
Whats the matter, Lynne, don't like being associated with me? ;-)
So, ARE you guys one and the same person? Or does Motts need a vacation...don't want these places rubbing off on our favorite photographer!
Thad, darlin', I was just tryin' to protect your reputation. I promise you, you don't want NO one mixin' you up with me! 8`-)
Thad,

You will find all kinds of rigging in power plants. There is always some sort of work being done. Looking at the length of the chain attached, I'd say that it's hooked up to a hoistup on a higher elevation on the boiler where there was maintenance being done. It could have been used to bring up toolboxes, planks for scaffolding, piping, beams, welding machines etc. Probably not necessarily for a single piece of equipment.
Colin, Makes sense.

BTW, this, and your other comments, are bringing some interesting insight to these power plant pictures!
Well I spend ~50 hours a week in them, so I pick up alot of stuff along the way.. Most people have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. They just know that they flip a switch and a light goes on. The amount of work that has to be done on a daily basis to keep these plants up and running is astounding. From the routine maintenance, to operations, to the major overhauls. I am just a mechanic though. My knowledge is limited to the plants I've actually worked in. "Red Dragon" and "Bob" seem to be on the operations or engineering side of thiings. I can tell you about the major systems in the plant, and what their purpose is... They know more of the details though. And on types of plants that don't exist where I am, like Coal powered.
The "ports" on either side...water on the floor.....the long chain and hook...."HAAAALP!!! I'm stuck in the belly of a cargo shiiip!!!"
Awe-mazing
That hook reminds me of Captain Hook from Peter Pan. :3
this to me looks like the type of place id be standing when some half rotten dude walks up talkin bout eating brains er something omg i would so wet myself if i had to be there right now .. lol
I wonder what those circular faceplates were for...
Now that's what I call a 'classic' Horror movie shot!!
I would love to go and get some dummy and stick it on that hook! just imagen the reaction you would get!! LOL! =)
A dummy would be not near as atmospheric as a pentagram drawn in the blood of a black cat on the floor, the eviscerated cat dangling on the hook.
Awe, poor thing. Nobody has been watching your sad little emo movies on YouTube have they?
