I think the porches should've been done in the flagstone, they look too detached from the building.

I like it. It gives the building moral fiber.
Thank God you are here, ~Me. If anyone knows about moral fiber, you are the one! Or was that dietary fiber? Now I'm corn-fused. :-(
er, I think the porches were enclosed later with the brick. Once upona they were probably open to the air. Make sense? : )
it looks absolutely imposing.
ya'll can say that agin :-()
That clock tower looks so strange. It seems as if it is lightly bent towards the viewer, but when seen from a different angle it appears that it's perfectly vertical.
Yes, yes, I can see it now. The symmetry , the Freudian explanation of man and sex. No?
Freud has always frightened me since I was a child. I believe this is Dr. Sketch's area of expertise. ;-)
Freud was just trying to justify wanting to have sex with his mother. Weirdo...
As far as being phallic, um, well yeah, there's a lot of phallic things in our world. Ever looked at a tree, or a rocket, or a...um...vi...vibrator? Anybody with me? :D Of course, Freud would say that you're projecting your own desires onto something else, but he also wanted to have sex with his mom, so he's full of it.
This place reminds me strongly of a medievil fortress or castle. Well, except newer, and at least from this angle.

And reading the above comments just made this picture look very sick and wrong. *looks abashed*

....right...

Umm nice shot. Very interesting angle.

Now everything is coming out 'wrong' =P
was freud's mum hot then?
The brick portions were almost certainly a later addition, probably around the time when the hospital staff either stopped caring about the place's aesthetic appearence, or simply no longer had the money to do so; I've seen a lot of sections at my local abandoned asylum (buffalo psych) where they evidently needed to add something to the structure - a chimney, an enclosure or whatever - and simply opted for the cheapest material available.
Actually, if you go here, you can see a historic drawing of the building, prior to when they bricked up the porches:

All I can picture is that tower collapsing upon itself, sadly it may happen in my lifetime. It would be the end of a legend
That sucka's not going down any time soon, trust me.
The railins do look strange, I can only imagine leaning foward holding on to one and it breaking. That's ya know, my luck.
Well, I could imagine it breaking as well...the details on the buildings are not so sturdy in my photos as they are in these.
So basically I should avoid them at all costs, so I'm not found dead at the bottom.
Nah, it's not coming down just yet.
Only becuase I'm nowhere near it. Haha, it does look very out of place there too. Maybe they should have made in out of stone..
Looks like somone backed a riverboat into the building.
The brick and the flagstone are an uncomfortable contrast for some reason.......
I visited early today (as much as I could it's fairly busy around that area now. The building does look like its still in fairly good shape, the tower doesn't appear to actually be tilting in any direction, however no matter how you look at it, it does seem like its reaching out over you.

the very front of the building (the red brick), does look a little weak, you can actually see the cracks in the photo if you no where to look. Its slowly collapsing in on itself, but still looks far more stable than some of the homes in worcester. Man I wish I knew about this place just a few years before. All this time hanging out less than a mile away with nothing to do... could have had fun.
The top porch looks like it is sagging.
It's amazing, after all that time, that the top-heavy tower is still standing straight. Such quality construction.
