and now, shouldn't a tyrant walk out on the balcony and wave at the croud?
Yep Richard, That's what I picture.
Golly, what interesting architecture! It looks like several styles cobbled together.
Lynne,
My thoughts exactly.
...hard to believe there were many more structures attached left and right and behind this...still harder to believe they were all destroyed and this was all that was spared. Yet true.
what a beautiful building!!
Nice structure
its beautiful!!!
wow thats all i can say
This building could serve as a museum , office and event venue that could serve as a means of introducing mental health issues and the State Hospital to the general public, i.e., public relations. Instead, it will be allowed to fall down and be forgotten.
The remaining buildings have not been destroyed yet and there are several incredible exaples of this acitecture still present behind this clock tower... So NO its not true. They are not raized yet.
Looks like a series of drawers, like you should be able to push the red parts back into the stone.
Looks like the porch\balcony was added at a later time. Wonder what it looked like before?
i too feel really sad looking at these pictures. the patients only "cime" was thatof mental illness.
hmm, very interesting. i wouldn't want to be there alone. I live down the street from there and BELIEVE ME. you think this picture is spooky, try checking it out in person...x
It is sad to my psychiatry school closes, howver I undersand that such is life. I remember with greatfulnes the five years that Ispend there.
actually went there and squeezed through the side of the fence almost went in but the cops showed up i almost got arrested but was let off with a warning damn i wish i got in
I love the clock tower. I am really glad that they are not teareing down the clock tower. I love old things like the clock tower.
My paternal grandfather's mother died here.
It reminds me of the summer homes built along the Cape Cod area or Millionare's Row from The Gilded Age. It's quite grandiose! I love historic buildiings they hold much character, nothing like the generic metal and concrete masses built nowadays.
A very gorgeous building, if must say so myself.
I wonder if anyone has made it up INTO the bell tower? I read that the clock was/is a Seth Thomas, and I assume it's still in there. And the bell is an 800 pound bell, which was rung every half hour so those patients and staff members working in the fields would know what time it was, and so they would know when to come in for meals. Can you imagine climbing that probably very winding staircase, possibly a metal circular staircase that slowly winds its way up up and up even further, into the dark crevices of the tower, in complete blackness, only cut through with a flashlight. I'm just DYING to know what the stairs are like that lead all the way to the top of the tower, and how spooky it must be climing all the way to the top, especially since it would have to be done in complete blackness since every window is completely boarded in. And what kind of shape is the 800 pound bell in, is the rope still attached? Does it creak really bad if you try to swing it to see what it sounds like if it's rung? Which of course would probably be heard for miles around if someone actually decided to ring it. And what of the clock, I wonder if it's all still intact. And I also wonder just how high up into the tower you can even get?
this is one of the building remaining of the hospital...i work at worcester state hpspital ....the buildings are very beautiful.......i always thought they should do a movie in there but they have already tryed to do so ..they were denied to do so
there rebuilding itt
creepy
