Motts, what time did it say? Just curious.
Looks like 9:50, no?
The hour hand looks to be missing from all sides... there seems to be a shadow of where it was for quite a while though, which would make the last known time at around 6:50 (unless it's right underneath the minute hand, but I don't see it there).

Very, "Back to the Future" "at 88 miles per hour, your gonna see some serious shit"
Serious architecture going on there.
Not to bring up a tired subject, but if you were to sell calenders of your work, you might be able to get enough to buy a real nice zoom lens. ;)
I might be mistaken, but do I sense a kind of penis thing in this clock tower, or is it my perverted sense of perception.
Is there any animated figures inside the clock?
Just Yaggy - Motts left him there in one of those damnable contraptions they always play around with.
Beautiful shot of the clock!
that has to be the greatest looking clock tower in all of Massachusetts. I'm so glad i live in Worcester!
The sad truth is...Worcester State Hospital was one of the greatest American architectural structures of all time. To see her in person, stripped of her wings, is depressing for the purist. But at the same time, thankful for what is left.
I had a lovely view of this clock tower from my condo windows when I lived on Lake Quinsigamond. Then I moved to the other end of the lake (which is 7 miles long) and can still see Worcester State high on the hill from my neighborhood. Always been fascinated by this place ever since I was a kid. There is a 'new' building next to the old complex that was built in the 1940s that is in use now. There is talk that they are going to build a brand new state of the art complex at this site. I am hoping these gorgious but unusual looking buildings get saved. This was one of the first mental institutions in the country so the place has great history of mental health. Mr Motts, awesome photos!
This clock tower looks like it will sink into the building itself.

I used to work at WSH. The Clock Tower is one of my favorite places. I love the Gothic beauty of it all. This was a working hospital, they had animals and farmland. Many babies were born at WSH and some were institutionalized from birth. I am hoping that they are able to build a new hospital using some of the old. It's a wonderfully historic place, not creepy at all! Lots of stories to tell with this one!!!
I go up to this hospital quite a bit. I wander around and take pictures. The odd thing is...the clock tower has 4 sides....all 4 sides show the same time. I'm sure it was all mechanically tied together, but, it still struck me as odd. 9:50.
Would it somehow be better if each face showed a different time?
There are four faces - only one clock...
To me...it is odd, and I can't explain why. Maybe it's because I expect the hands to be broken off/torn off at least on one of the sides. It's very..."intact" for something so old.
The clock tower was going to be a filming location for a Paramount movie produced by Martin Sorcese staring Leo DeCaprio. Unfortunately the timing is off since the new hospital is going to start construction and the state wont allow filming which will take about 6 weeks. Worcester lost this wonderful chance and the clock tower would have been immortalized.
quite stately in a way.
