Wooden Box

Wooden Box

A thick pane of glass was in front, and I think this was attached to a duct in back... perhaps used for air conditioning or ventilation.

A very inimitable discovery.
I really like this shot as well. The lighting is perfect.
Reminds me of a Morgue Refrigerator Door.
...nice place to hide from the boogy-man...or to be scared**by him....
silk, it sure does.
it does look like a morgue door
Yes it sure does...... was it smaller than that though Motts?
Morgue doors were meant to keep the cold in, which is probably why this door resembles one so much, although I'm not sure what the pane of glass is for. The refrigerator doors in a morgue are much wider to fit a body inside.
This is probably what they kept some of their medicines in to control the temperature. We have some thng like this in our basement. The Dr. who built our house in the late 30's used it for that reason.

(I'm just LOVING this site!
it looks creepy and i love it!!!!!!!!
That happens to be my bedroom thank you. Lol :P
Nina: Is there room for two? It looks pretty small...
just a thought but perhaps could it be used to deliver something from one floor to another ? maybe even in secret like it wasnt maybe intended for it but it was used to it? did you happen to notice if this led to an open space on another floor? just odd i sence it was used as some sort of delivery method or storage place i feel maybe secretly by a nurse any validation to this ? email me at justicedreams24@aol.com thanks
umm that just looks a little spooky to me
Lordy, it's a great shot. Retains all the mysteries that you have created, Motts. I like the drug cooling theory, but I prefer to make my own observations. Those observations perhaps a little to bizarre even for this website.
How about a laundrt shoot?
I think that is a refrigerated unit for some kind of cold storage.
This is a door that was made by York for a refrigerated storage "locker". These were used to store many different things...from medicines to food to furs... I actually looked up the old sales order for this hospital. We still have the records.
Paul:

"I actually looked up the old sales order for this hospital. We still have the records."

Now THAT is fantastic!
Thanks Lynne.
I just stumbled upon this site. Now I am hooked.
Considering that I am very familiar with this old equipment, I thought I'd help and positively identify what it truly was. People's imaginations are so fertile and interesting, perhaps it would have been better if I did not I.D. it.
Wow, thanks for the information and research Paul!
Mr. Motts... More info -

Doors like this one were specially made for medicinal storage purposes. It allowed the contents to be inventoried and viewed without compromising the low temperature environment. Some medicines were quite sensitive to temperature variations. Doors for other more standard purposes, such as food storage, did not have a glass panel section.
Without a doubt, my favourite photo in the gallery...
most likly a laundry shoot
jan -
This is not a laundry shoot. This is a door on a refrigerated storage locker.
Okay Paul S thanks for clearing that up! Got any more info on this place? email me at Buddytwou@aol.com
Ok... My apologies right away. I have been consumed with this site for the past few weeks, and adore it! I have also been reading (tons!) of the past comments submitted... Lynne, as many have commented, the knowledge you have shared is wonderful. My interest in mental health and my actual profession (ugggh, HR, well, you might need some insight to mental health when dealing with employee relations right?) differ a bit, and in my research on the history of mental health, there has been derogatory info regarding staff. It is refreshing to hear the other side of the story. I am very appreciative for your willingness to share your experiences, and knowledge, oh and, I did see a couple of requests here asking you to write a book... I too would love to hear more of your stories/experiences. Sorry...

Sorry, didn't start out to post this as a tribute to Lynne <g>, but after a few weeks of reading some posts, I needed to share, and express my utter displeasure of reading arachnidher's incessant questions and request for comments. Sorry. I see one of these, and I cringe, knowing what comes next... If anyone has any questions or comments, please email me at; katiep@yaddayaddayadda.com
I'm all about apologizing today... but wanted to say, sorry about my last post... it's probably the bitterness/cynic in me.
Katiep,

Trust me, there was plenty of truth in your comment. :)

And besides, Lynne deserves all the tributes she gets!
Go hard, Katiep!

I second her motion!
this place could be the perfect horror flick
I totally thought it was a morgue refridgerator door too!! I'm glad I wasn't the only one!
it kinda looks like it could of been a fire alaram where you could pull it so sound off the alarms
pssh.
i wouldnt want air from in there.
Wonderful photo...your use of lighting is always the best!
I find it interesting that there doesn't seem to be a lock on the door, especially for storage of temperature-sensitive medications. Today even Pepto-Bismol has to be locked up and not dispensed without a doctor's order! Was this locker in a location that was already secure?
So many things that are under lock and key these days weren't in prior years. It's the people that have abused these items like medications or the street sales of these stubstances that wreck it for the rest of us. I have had chronic back pain for the last 20+ years thanks to an auto accident. In order to be able to work full time, live my life and not lay in bed like a vegtable all day I am on a high dose of narcotics to keep the pain down to 5-6 (on a 1-10 scale) so I can function. I used to be able to call in my script to the doctors office but a couple years ago they changed that proceedure so that now I have to make an appointment every 30 days and actually see them, pick up my scripts and leave. And you know why? Because of the people that abuse these narcotics and sell them on the street for recreational use and have no real use for them other than to get high. I say smoke pot like everyone else and leave the prescription drugs to people that need them in order to live.
And the funny thing is, I work with people that get prescription drugs on the street at like $4-5 a pill so all this precaution did nothing. It still goes on because people go to the doctor fake something ask for hydrocodone or whatever, get it, then sell it. THAT'S why when I go to get my other Rx, they have to go in this locked compartment to see if it's in stock.
wow looks scary
eldokid, i have the same problem, i havwe fibro mialgia and 2 herniated discs and the shit they put me through to get my medication is ridiculus because of the junkies that abuse it
? maybe the insulin stored here for the shock therapies as it had to be refrigerated
