you know, i never saw your site until now. i have my pics here with me when i came across this one... i have the excat same picture at a slightly different angle :o)
How would one make arrangements to visit the NSH?
The hospital is off limits to the public; it is currently being developed by MassDevelopment and Beals and Thomas.
Heh. Maybe. Maybe not. ( us E.L. kids <3 video footage of this place. Friends were in there like two days ago.)
I can't get over how blown away I am that so many things were left behind in all of these locations. I explored an abandoned dog track recently but it was no where near as cool as these places.
It was cheeper for the state to leave it all behind. They knew no one would be able to get it out.
Its ashame that things like these are left to waste away. This could be one of the few that are left. You never know it could be worth something.
Technically NSH is off limits, but you can get in easily. Never heard of anyone getting in trouble for going there. I doubt that if the cops saw a car there at 2 A.m. if they would go in looking for someone.
that machine is great I wonder how old it is? anyone??
i began x-ray school in late 1977. we had old equipment but none that was quite this old. the extending metal arm w/the cables to the left that end w/a metal disc mounted on what looks like a cone-shape- that device on the end is the x-ray tube itself. the vertical square beam coming from behind &over the top of the box is how you move the tube up & down. it probably also rotates. the knobs you see are how you set the machine. i think this is an old portable machine, probably from the 60s.
those things were hell to push!!
There are places all over the United States that are totally abandoned. The way they are furnished, it looks like some of the people just got in their car, took off, and never came back. I have a lot of books on abadoned dwellings.
I am new to this site....ok I cant stop looking at it I found it monday and havent done a lick of work sense! I ve just been looking, learning and enjoying all the great photos. Mr, Motts you are very very good with the lens.
Lynne-You have my full respect for what you do and the others on here that do as you do.

Now for this picture...did anyone notice the white/aluminum colored line across the top right of the machine???? It becomes transparent as it crosses the square vertical tube...but it does not disapear!
Why I noticed that I dont know...
Bwah ha ha ha ha ha! Motts snared another one!
Welcome Dave Willy...we have a forum too!
I see what your talking about...the white line thingy! Never ever noticed that before, and I have perused this gallery many a time!
Nancy I would love to read and some of these books ,please give me the name of a few or where I can buy them. I would be so thankful.
I think this place is a really cool place for peple to go to go if you are really interested in the history of the old Northampton asylum its really a creepy place
A question for anyone familiar with x-ray machines: would there be any radioactive substances or parts in these old machines? If so, it would seem mighty irresponsible to abandon them like this . . .
When I toured Bergen-Belsen and Aushewitz,Poland, in 1983,this is the sigular dejavu experience that can be related to it-to a passer-by,it's just another brick in the wall, from a human perspective, a testament to human insensitivty and wanton lack of a soul....actually-Aushwitz was more like a six flags fun park when you consider how morbid N.S.H actually was...
I hope i misunderstood the last comment. Auschwitz was built as a mechanism for genocide. However great the shortcomings of state psychiatric hospitals, they were established for the purpose of restoring people to health.
Awww... it still looks happy!
