Helix

Helix

This was a neat surprise... I think it led into the kitchens, a strange spot for a spiral staircase!

I like the fact that it is so dark at the bottom - you can almost pretend it leads even further down into a basement.
the wind must move through here, it seems the debris on the floor have been blown away as the wind blew down the stairs...
Incredible shot! I agree with Lynne, it almost appears that the staircase keeps going down....
awsome contrast
The big mixer was in that room! ^_^
AMAZING!!!! This is BY FAR the BEST picture I've seen on this site... I love it!!!!
Wonderful shot! I agree with boy Lynne and Jude! That's really...wow...
Geeze, what's up with my typos? Subtract that "boy" out of the post above! LoL!
It's OK - I called Grifspop a girl recently, so it's just karma, turning me into a boy and all. ;-)
That's okay Bri, you can call me Boy George if you want to. =)
LoL! I'm so sorry! LoL! I guess I was just so wowed by the photo! I guess I can just insert my foot in my mouth now...ummhumm!

:0$
Boy George, Twug...okay...I guess I can handle that! :0) hehe!
Wow, I can speak (umm...er...type) really well while having a foot in my mouth...LoL!
Not a strange spot, It most likely oled to the kitchen, In the Worcester Academy there is a spiral staircase that leads from the basement to the big coolers in the back room in the kitchen
Hey!!! I've seen pictures of spiral staircases being in prisons.
there is a stairway just like that at my dads house, they hurt to fall down lol
love spiral stair cases, kinda weird for one to be here tho
I love spiral staircases. Great job.
It makes me think of a fire house, or maybe even "Jack and the Bean Stalk".
Its a incredible shot thats for sure.
As for it being there it might have been an after thought. and enough room to add a straight stair case.
I once lived in an apartment over a jewlery store, that other than the fire escape a stairway just like that was the only way in.
I grew up in a house, that had the same looking stair case! It was a beach house! It is sad to see the decay in this hospital. At the same time it is very creepy. Was wondering if any one had visited Waverly Hills, and or Essex mountain Sanatorium?? It makes you wonder what was going threw the doctors and nurses minds!!!
ooooo nice spiral
ahhh - beautiful shot!

And i love that you titled it "Helix" it's one of my irrational pet-hates that peopel call these things 'spiral staircases'. they're NOT spirals! they're HELICES!

imagine a piece of wire being wrapped around a cylinder. you've just made a helix. the width of it remains the same all the way along.
now wrap the wire around a CONE. that's a spiral, the width gets smaller towards one end.

As these staircases have a constant width all the way down, they're helices, not spirals. i have no idea why this irritates me so much, it's such a small, insignificant thing!
wow. ive never seen a spiral staircase before!
Someone should make a double helix staircase. That would be a real art piece.
