Cracked Open

The entrance to the violent ward... all the glass has been covered by thick steel mesh on both sides.

This shot literally took my breath away, Mr. Motts. It looks so classical, and I dunno, it just captures the dread of entering the violent ward.
Totally amazing!
They couldn't make a movie set look this f--king awesome!!!
This shot looks so amazingly institutional and frightening. I so love that you did this one in black and white, great effect.
when i hear the phrase, "the locked ward" this is exactly what i see :-O
WOW. IF YOU LOOK AT THE FLOOR... YOU CAN SEE MARKS, OR MORE LIKE DRAGING MARKS, LIKE SOMETHING-ONE HAS BEEN DRAGED ON THE FLOOR...
Yeah, the bars on anything glass or remotely breakable adds to the whole scene.
question if you dont mind......are there still signs posted telling you what areas of the hospital you are entering and if not how do you know its the violent ward just wondering
Thick glass or plexiglas and mesh screen are your usual giveaways. They need to withstand the violence of having furniture and bodies tossed against them if the person is not in control of themself at the time.
I like this shot. It's strange because knowing it's the violent ward you'd think not to enter, but with the door open like that (slightly a jar) it envokes curiosity!
This shot is made even more horrific by the fact that the door is partially open: one would expect a "violent ward" door to be closed fast. This view leads the viewer to wonder: has someone got out, or am I being invited in? An unpleasant thought, either way.
I love the total lack of imaginitive detail in the design of the entrance. I makes you feel small looking at it and would feel very intimidating as you approached it. They should have added a 'welcome' matt to make it more homely !!!

Great site Motts
It's beautiful!!!
this ward would make a fucking nun violent......
When they abandon these buildings, are all the doors and everything left open like that?
Why not?
We need a soundtrack to sanity for these collections.

I think this location and Northwood Asylum sum up the lonely, hopeless feeling that asylums bring on. In the end of their days, don't these asylums finally look like the feelings they bring to those locked in them in the beginning of their years?
really gr8 pic
SPOOKY
Once you were put in there you probably never came out and if you did you were a vegetable.
i would not want to walk through those doors every day. creepy.
wow the violent ward, wouldnt want to work there!
Indeed very welcoming :D
