"Follow the little grey string!"
WOW FANTABULOUS PIC! I ALSO LOVE YOU MOTTS!
CLASSIC PICTURE MOTTS CLASSIC!!!
OMG! This one too... Love it!!!!
Fabulous picture! I love the perspective.
its an inviting nightmare... the way the doors are almost but not quite all the way open suggests that they are in the process of opening, like its a ghost story, and the ghosts want you to come this way. brilliant.
Hey Motts, I live in Northampton England and we also have an old abandoned Mental Institution called St Andrews that was opened in 1838. Wouldn't it be great if you took some photos of that one to compare against this one...
I agree Pete. Motts, the cheapeast and most exciting way to get over there is by rowboat. June or July.
If I make a trip out to England, I will definitely check into it... I have a few I'd like to see in the England/Scotland area.
The beauty is that most of our stuff is reeeeally old and we have so many old trains, buildings, cars etc that show the effect of time in great detail. Things rust so fast here you can almost feel the change in your pocket start to decay ; )
Pete, Is that old hospital between St. Andrews st. and Lower Harding st.?
Impressive as ever Motts
motts you pics are great...i am amazed that you know so much in regards to that what the actual rooms are. how are u able to identlify all the rooms in such a large place? is it from experience in being in so many places or do u have maps? also, does anyone have any pics of any of these places while they were sitll being used? its crazy how quickly these places become so ancient looking. its also crazy how the staff left so much behind. did they know that they were shutting the doors forever?
YAY!! Mental Floss
Where did the string go to
It looks like I am about to walk right through those doors and into the ward itself. It is so realistic.
At the risk of sounding redundant, that is one great shot! The next best thing to being there.
I just wanted to give you an update on what happened to that string. It gathered up by experts in the field of archeology and given to Prez, he as our most glorious leader forwarded to Northampton, England to be placed in an honored place that the Norhamptonites call the museum of odd stringy things. Hey, great question.
great pic
the point of no return.
hey motts has there ever been a case about some one getting lost in there and never coming back
No, the building can get a bit confusing at first but it's not a labyrinth
i bet theres been a few faces pressed against those panes of glass........
I guess all of these places used lead-based paint and asbestos. Is that why they don't want to ever use them again and they just let them sit and deteriorate?
Nancy -

Pretty much. It's cheaper to let the buildings just rot than pay the enviromental fees to dispose of the deconstructed material or retro-fit the places to bring them to modern code.
My first post. Almost like you could run forever and never get anywhere. Kinda creepy!
Long hall shone with sunlight coming from rooms with opened doors creeps me a bit.
Northampton England again, still no sign of the string delivery Johnny Mac, perhaps its been sent to the shoe museum here? lol. Yes there really is one! Northamptons only vaguely interesting history being one of cobbling over the centuries. Anyhoo, I stumbled here and will stumble away again safe in the knowledge that we are giving brits a terrible name lol!
What is the infamous string for Mister Motts?
I suppose someone wasn't confident in getting out, or perhaps didn't bring a flashlight, so they let loose a ball of string through the place.
WOW! I love this! The shadows and light are wonderful, a great black and white picture!
Mr. Motts, I don't suppose you remember what that black rectangular box at the end of the hall on the wall is, do you? Just curious. :)
Aauurgh, reminds me of the hallway doors at my grade school!
