Well, I guess they never had to do much Christmas decorating, then...
I want a tetanus shot now.
Tetanas,... flu shot coming up ;-(
So sad to see such a beautiful building rotting away like this!
Just found this site & love it. Oh, if these walls could talk!! Mr. Motts, where is Riverside State Hospital? I can't seem to find that info. Great pic!!
Well, it's good place for thinking.
beautiful
This is a beautiful photo. Stare into it, and imagine the activity passing through this hallway some 40 to 50 years ago.

Actually, this is [ removed ]. Pictures taken at the risk of being arrested. The area is Off Limits.
BeenThere (AKA Mike),

Oh, when you guys learn... advertising the name of the place only hurts your organization and what you are trying to do.

You can keep posting all your childish comments on my site too, they will just be deleted. I'm keeping track of it all though, perhaps your supervisor might find your representation of the agency you work for and what you are doing while on the job very interesting. E-mail me if you'd like to discuss this further.
Your site has really piqued my curiousity Motts. I have spent a happy week purusing your site and doing research on other sites. I now know who Kirkbride was, what he did for mental health and what he had to do with these vastly different buildings. I did some digging and figured out where this facility is. I'll respect your wish to leave it nameless. The cool thing is knowing that we can also imagine the acitivity going on in these hallways in the future. It will apparently soon be converted to a hotel. If I have the right facility, (and I have been able to match other photographs to yours), they are going to try to save the whole building, as well as construct townhouses and a marina around it. They have a real job ahead of them. I can't imagine how they will safely get all those hanging floors down without damaging the masonry walls or remove all the lead paint, but that is apparently the plan. I wish them well.
OK, Motts, I'm confused! Isn't this place named Riverside? I'm just wondering because that is what you have it listed as...
It is not the true name of the state hospital, many places here are under pseudonyms to hide their identities, including Riverside.
Could you note when a given site's name has been changed? We don't need to know the real name, but simply knowing that a name like "Riverside State Hospital" is a pseudonym would be nice.
Wooooooow!
Comment for Jane or whoever knows; are they really going to save this building? That would be fantastic. They built them better years ago anyway.
"They built them better years ago..."

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. From some of the previous pix it appears that the flooring was NOT attached as rigidly as it is done today. Or rather, the construction methods used today in regards to the joints bewteen floors and walls is vastly superior to what was used "years ago".

However (and sadly), most current designs are architecturally sterile and bland, and it's a shame that designers and architects can't seem to take the best of the past and utilize it with todays technology.

(Hmmm.....maybe I should have posted this in the Forum area of this site instead. I've yet to do that...)

And BTW, nice site, Mr. Motts. Very much appreciated!
This is too bad. A building like this could have been reused for offices or an antique mall type business. Yet this building was not kept up and started to fall in on it's self. Now it's beyond repair, leaving holes in the roof and floors, a dangerous place to visit indeed. I'd give it 10 years to completely fall in, and 3 years before it is completely inaccessible from the inside (can't safely move about in the building.) Truly sad.
Too late, what you see in this image burned into the basement in '07.
Damn I hate being red/green color blind. I see NO contrast at all.
