Twin Sinkers.....
Kinda like Granny's boobs
Well, THERE'S more information about your grandmother than we ever needed to know. >:-(
Thank you for this shot. I LOVE it.... FABULOUS!
you looked at them ewwwww lol
1930s I would say
"Together, my friend, until the end"
Untill the bitter end !
There is a path betwen the two ships and i just wanna walk down it...or swim down it or motor down it...or whatever
@ ~Me: Je grootmoeders tieten bevinden zich in een staat van ontbinding. En wat ben je eigenlijk een onrespectvolle vuile viespeuk om het over de tieten van je grootmoeder te hebben. Bah, pislul. (nee, ik was het niet)
Uh-oh - looks like ~Me is in trouble, talkin' 'bout her granny like that. :-(
The tugboats, look like they are from the 50's to me.
The high pilothouses suggest that these might be "Railroad Tugs" - designed to allow the helmsman to see over the top of boxcars on a loaded "RR Car Float" barge. Various RR's serving NY Harbor had fleets of tugs & barges. The only remnant that survives today is the NY Cross Harbor RR
Wow ~Me...the Dutch have it out for you! LoL!
Basically, vlamoes post says (and now I'm using a literal on-line translation, but forgive me I don't speak Dutch fluently--I only sing in it!), "Your grandmothers breasts are themselves in a state of dissolution. And what you are is, in fact, an unrespectful dirty vith??{no idea here} butt to have said it concerning the breasts of your grandmother. Bah, pislul??{no idea here, but I can imagine a, "How rude," but I don't know how the following would fit in then}. (no, I was not it)"
Just thought I should let you know ~Me, but I found your comment funny, since it's kinda the same thing with my Grandma too! LoL!
an unrespectful dirty vith??{no idea here} = "a disrespectful piece of dirt"

The commentator's name is a misspelled version of a part of one's anatomy, using the colorful jargon of the day. :-)
AHH! I was kind of wondering that! Thank you so much, Lynne! You know a lot about a lot of stuff and I'm thoroughly impressed day to day!
Don't be. I make most of it up. ;-)
Oh, gosh! I just saw that I wrote unrespectful! :0$ Goodness! Maybe I should get back to actually studying so I don't make that same mistake again!!!!!!!!!!!! But, I guess I could always blame it on lack of sleep! This sight has enthralled me beyond belief and I just can't seem to tear myself away!
LoL Lynne! :0)
old ny central tugs. were pale green at one time
Till death to them part.............
These are the NYNH&H RR tugs Transfer 16 and transfer 21 built in 1904 and 1908.;
it is too bad that they just left these ships/boats here to rot away, the pictures definitaly tell the story.
I've sailed by yards like this when I was sailing on tugs and barges.... I always wonder where they'd been and what they had seen. Beautiful boats, sometimes I think they'd make great yachts or private cruisers
I think is very said to see those ships rusting away.
The old NYCRR tugs, based at Weehawken until the Penn-Central merger of 1968, were perhaps the most famous of all NY Harbor railroad tugs. One of them even had a brief "co-starring" role with Barbra Striesand in "Funny Girl" back around 1967. The NYCRR had one of the largest and most diverse marine fleets in the harbor right into the 1960s. Truly, this pic symbolizes an era long since departed down the echoing corridors of time.
I can see why they are called twins they look almost exactly alike.
truly magnificent...i love all the old tugs
Happy together..........
'Friends 'Til The End, Never Looking Back'
Why are we talking about granny's boobs?
As of 9/2008 both of these boats, and the fireboat HEWITT have been removed.
Hello FBJim!,
You are a wealth of information. I thought this place was "closed" and semi-abandoned? Is there some reason the boats are being removed after all this time? Seems almost
By removed, what do you mean? Have the vessels been demoplished? or thier remains recovered and moved else where?
A sort of update, Yard is very active, the two transfer tugs apparently have just collapsed away, the boilers and I guess machinery are still there but only visible at low tide. I passed there the other day and both of their boilers were visible, the HEWITT I cant see at all so it may have been removed. You should have seen this place in the 70s when I use to spend two days a week there, talk about history!
