That's actually a diplodocus sneaking out of the water disguised as a hoist . . .
Lynne, that is SO the loch ness monster.
I admire the way what ever you want to call it either it be a Hoist, Diplodocus, or the loch ness monster, has cast a shadow on the hual of the boat as a slumped over fisherman going down with his beloved boat.
Oh my heck! ~Me, you noticed that too? I thought I was going crazy when I saw that shadow.
It leaves much to the imagination, story wise, doesn't it now?
Eeeeeeeek! You're right! Nessie, I am so sorry I confused you with a diplodocus! I needs new glasses! 8`-)
ANACONDAS!
But, then again, Nessie COULD be a diplodocus.
This picture reminds me a "Water World" film
DAVIT ! Its a Davit, used for anchors and lifeboats. It swivels around. Jeez, buncha landlubbers here.
How can it be a davit? This shot was obviously taken on either the bow or the stern of the ship. In maritime history, lifeboats were never used on bows, and were never put on the stern of a ship since the propellers came into use.
I agree with the monster, that was my first impression................nice shot!
its a lifeboat davit
How aabout it being a davit for handling the anchor?
I'm not too far from Pearl Harbor and this kind of reminds me of the Battleship Utah protruding from the water; the view on the left, anyway. Makes you wonder how much is left under the water.
its mounted at the back of the bridge and at one point would have hung over the deck so it could not have been used for an anchor
I think thats a barge
It's not a barge.
Uh... not sure about the anchor idea... and I am yet to see a ship with a davit on the bow or stern... looks very navy like though... and i dont know why
After some study, the vessel is an Ex Navy landing craft for personnel. There were two ramps that came down on either side of the bow, the Davit was used to raise, lower and stow the ramps. Also I worked on a fireboat that had a small divit for handling the anchor. it was right up on the bow. not all boats hang an anchor all the time.
It's called a Davit
It looks like a brown tenticle ready to devour a carcass.
Its a davit for christs sake
Agreed not for a life boat but for loading and unloading, possibly anchor crane davit.
