Side Decks

Side Decks

The floors to the sides of the ferry were completely gone; it looks like this is where the passengers would hang out while their cars were parked on the main deck.

Any ideas on the approximate ages of some of these ships?
I'm wondering about the ages also...
The Ferryboat's name is the Beacon. She was built in 1921 in Groton, CT. She served on the old Newburgh to Beacon Ferry Line
awrsome pictures I stumbeled across it quite by random surfing and am very glad I did
Strange, this ferry was decommisioned around 1964. There is talk of resurecting Ferry service along the Beacon Ferry - Newburgh line.
Hey Jeffery, How did you Know this was the "Beacon"? You are sure this is the Becacon, right? Any idea where we might read up on this particular ferry boat?
Hard to believe cars were driving onto this thing only that long ago
Really eerie picture. Reminds me of the Lewes Ferry in Delaware that I took quite alot.
I am sure this ferryboat is the Beacon, it was published in an issue of Steamboat Bill by in the 1990s, by South Street Seaport. A good source to read about the vessel is Steamboat Bill, is the Fall 2003 issue. There is a small article in there about the ferryboat. Also visit www.geocities.com/northfield1901 for other ferryboat wreck history around the new york city area
