Medical Monstrosity

Medical Monstrosity

The ominous medical building on campus used to conjure up images of shock therapy, lobotomies, and other such treatments in my mind... it's sheer size and 1950's institutional architecture was creepier than the gothic asylum up on the hill in my opinion!

I think night time during a full moon is the best time to capture these feelings in a photograph, so here it is.

Awesome series, Motts.
Really like the lighting and the star trails add a lot. :)
Good work (as always)
Boy, you are right - makes me think of those 1950s "B" grade movies of all the scientists doing strange things with x-rays and radiation and giant mutant spiders . . . .
Now why'd you have to go and mention giant mutant spiders?!?
Yaay.... luv it. Makes me think of that movie from the late 60's or early 70's "Don't Look In The Basement" Anyone remember that one?????
These towers remind me of the most modern building on North Brother Island.
Hey Motts, Those windows look fairly new. When was this building closed? Thanks
I think in 2000 or 2001...
Cool building
kty- I remember "Don't Look in the Basement". So bad it was good. It was on a double-feature DVD (which only cost a dollar!) with "Satan's School For Girls"- the title is MUCH better than the movie. Kate Jackson was in it, just as she was also in "Dark Shadows".
Just to clarify: Kate Jacson was in "Satan's School...", not "Don't Look...".
Ok, since I'm not a photographer I have to ask- How the heck do the colors "work" at night? I understand about long exposure times to allow more light (I think), but the colors.....

Simply fascinating!
When there is little light pollution from nearby cities and other unnatural sources, moonlight can produce quite accurate colors with the proper white balance set on the camera.
the lighting is perfect on this pic- the bldg looks overbearing
See you
Building came online in 1952 I do believe. Yes, in many respects this is creepier than the Kirkbride building. The 'courtyard' on the north side is really good for that - you are in a canyon of barred windows up to the sky...
This building seriously looks like it is trying to jump out of the picture and get to us...............!
I like the street lamps better...
Looks like some place they would discover a zombie virus, and then the building got overrun with them
