Basin

Basin

A bathtub was located next to this basin... I'm not what it was used for.

that would make a great wallpaper.
I agree with derelict, but I am glad that you, Mr. Motts was not what this basin was intended for.

Smile, you know you're loved by many.
He was not what it was used for!?!? I s'pose that's good . . . isn't it?

LOVE that wonky patterned green & white tile!

Don't look now, but that little feminine looking washbasin looks like it is trying to escape from its mooring.

I like the ghostly reflection of the pipes in the tiling at the top of the pic. Do you suppose it's the ghost of the former sanitation system coming back to haunt us?
Was this picture taken in pitch blackness with a slow shutter speed? If so, what do you normally use to illuminate objects in pitch black rooms, and how long do you normally leave your shutter open?
It looks like it was used for sitz baths. They have those in the ob wards of hospitals.
Why does this remind me of a birthing tub??
Definitely a sitz bath, part of hydrotherapy.
It looks more like someone used it as a toilet.
Dammit... Someone should warn me not to go looking up terms like "sitz bath" at work. The description wasn't bad, but the illustration... ~shudder~ For those (like myself) who aren't in the medical industry, a sitz bath appears to be a bath specially designed for washing genitals. At least, that's what I got as my mouse was moving to the "close" button! Anyone else able to better describe it?
Like a how a dog uses his tongue!
Ok, my mind definitely went the wrong way with that one... I hope you mean to clean itself, right? :D
Yes!
You got the Episiotomy aftercare illustration didn't you?
Yeah, and again ~shudder~. I love children, and hope to have my own some day, but when the time for the "miracle" of childbirth comes, I will be in another state, far far away from the proceedings. I don't want to see it, hear it, or think about it. ~shudder~ I'll probably just adopt...

Now look what you did... I have the jibblies. ~shuddershuddershudder~!!! This is by far the scariest picture on the site! :D
Nothing compares to childbirth, being in the delivery room when your kid pokes his (or her) way out for the first time.
My kid was a cesarian birth, and I got to hold him before my wife did, then brought him over to her, now that's cool.
It looks like some sort of "Sitz Bath" type thing, or a weird "bidet"?
Hi Amanda, hydrotherapy was a common treatment to help patients. It was used to relax, sedate or stimulate a patient.Sitz baths was one of the therapies used to treat a patient.
Yeah, wIlliam, gee thanx for the explanation??? Duh, did I seem that confused?
OMG - the free conversation being carried out in the posts under this pic is better than paying $12.00 to be entertained at the movies ANYDAY =D LMAO!!!
I've seen similar sinks in British hospitals & they have been described as medical sluces, for washing surgical equipment.
http://www.vintageplumbing.com/generic7.html If you look at this page you can see that this is a sitz bath like they used in the Victorian times.
OK - where's the soap dispenser?
It looks kind of creepy
I have to pee.
Ewwww! It looks like it was used as a toilet and somebody duked in it! Nas-tay! Although, in all reality it was just some sort of sink thing and that... Whatever it is, wonder crud, isn't a big duke more likely rust, standing water, dirt, something like that.
...And you couldn't pay me to go and see what that wonder crud is, or rather was, because it's most likely gone now along with that sink thing and that room and that building and that hospital.
Arrgh. Short version: here it is. It's a Mott brand sitz bath. http://www.noreast1.com/dvsitz4.jpg
I hear that sitz baths are awesome, but in all honesty, after giving birth I didn't use one. They gave us little disposable plastic squeezebottles that had tops like waterbottles do. And I'll tell ya, when bending down to clean certain areas is a painful effort, or when toilet paper is too rough for certain still-swollen parts, a sitz bath of lukewarm water can be a lifesaver. I know it sounds disgusting to those who haven't experienced labor - or had a c-section - but trust me when I say it's a godsend. Especially when you're not only fighting strained muscles in odd places, but also nine stitches in very sensitive areas. :D :D :D
I hear you there star. Never got the pleasure of a sitz bath, just got that horrible aerosol spray stuff that burned like no other when it hit stitches
It wasnt just for your feminine side, A sitz bath, can be enjoyed by either sex after hemorhhoid surgery. The men sing oh what a relief it is as loud as the ladies.. It also proivided my Dad some relief during his battle with prostate cancer.
